Not really. Some of the choices on Buzz Off were awful.

Plus the music isn't the real reason i tune in

True. Nah I was just wondering because one of the reason Wogan does well is because there's a wide variety of music.

i dont think it would be better but if radio 1 were more flexible with the playlist they would get more listeners.

The reason he does so well is mainly because of the old grannies that listen to him - loyal until the end.

Heh. Although I have to say I get so fed up of hearing the same songs in every show. Especially around the time of the Big Weekend.

Hell yeah.

But the kids wanna hear McFly and Usher when they're waking up.. not Nik Kershaw and Howard Jones.

I'm sure this argument has happened so many times on here but high rotation doesn't work for me at all. I think Somebody told me was the most glaring example.

I wouldn't want Moyles choosing it but just more variety and less of the same stuff

Yeah it's whoever does the playlists that they need to change really... maybe the job will be up for review in the job cuts?

that job wont be up for review, you always need someone to be head of music. And Alex Jones Donally has quite a high up job at R1.

Moyles has some aweful taste in music.
Do you mean: would letting him choose the music give him more motivation to improve the rest of the show?

The music isnt the problem with the show. The main problem is listener familiarity and presenter apathy. Moyles and the team hardly put any effort into it at all now. They all need a right kick up the arse or we wont be hearing Moyles on radio 1 in two years time.

Thats what Chris choosing the music would do, more motivation

No it wouldn't. If he chose the music it would be worse - think the whole show been tedious link/buzz off songs.

Radio 1 is a new music station, Chris is 30+ so knows more older songs. If he had to listen to all the new music coming into Radio 1 to decide what to play he wouldn't have time to spend on the show, the music department is actually there for a reason.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic. Difficult to tell on the interweb

surely everyone knows more older songs?

Well I personally don't think the music department should be scrapped, but I think there should be more freedom for Chris to play some of his own songs. Perhaps some classic anthems like Queen, etc. Stuff that even the younger generations enjoy too.

I didn't mean the actual job being scrapped, just a change of person in the job.

I disagree. A fair percentage of Moyles target audience aren't into sports and besides Moyles would only cover English games. What about Scottish and Welsh footie?

OK thanks, good to know. Does anyone have the cat[…]
