Personally I can. And it's probably for the same reason he wasn't nominated for a Sony. At the time I wrote this about my feelings of the show. I think the show needs a lot of work if they want to get back to 7 million listeners.

Don't get me wrong, I love Moyles' shows, but I have to say it doesn't have that fresh feeling tuning in during the morning compared to this time last year.

There seems to be more a comfort zone attitude, where if something doesn't work or a feature gets old, to leave it and something'll come along sooner or later and that with 7 million listeners people will continue to listen.

When Buzz Off got old, I was hopeing for a new feature to appear at 7.20, but it's just chit chat and at this time of the morning the guys aren't ready until about 8am.

Last year things like carpark catchphrase, buzz off, the friday ticket giveaway, tedious links, pub quiz, etc felt fresh. There's doesn't seem to have been much since the new year begun.

Last year we had stuff like the Euro 2004 tournament which was worth tuning in just for the jingles! Okay, so we don't have a major football tournament this year, but hopefully you get what i mean. The Red Nose Rally was good, but having 82125 drilled into my head was dull.

The detox was pretty boring. And there's a lot revolving around pub quizes. Come to such and such a place for a pub quiz. Fine for those that get to go, crap listening for those that don't. What happened to spontaneous things like the book signing etc.

The jingles this time round feel a bit rushed. Sure, credit when due to Music4, but the lyrics have been a bit dire. What happened to the tongue in cheek ones and the ones that actually rhymed?

The website could do with a redesign. For Moyles who is the "saviour of Radio 1" I think he's come along, done a great year on the breakfast show and now took a back row seat and the show is slacking a bit.

I agree with Will being on the show was also a good change. Rachel's good, but she isn't prepared to go into areas where Will does.

At the moment Moyles is on holiday, and I know a lot of people have a negative opinion about Mills, but it feels fresh and it reminds me of the days when Moyles begun the breakfast show. Something I'd tune into even when I don't need to be up.

None of those were ever fresh.

The listeners are still up on this time last year - so as I've said before I wouldn't be too worried

Amen to that. Still can't listen to her at weekends, but at least at weekends I'm too busy to listen most of the time.

I used to religiously listen to Chris, but now often listen to a cd in the car now. The whole detox thing was an utter bore, and I find him ringing his sandwich maker friend and talking about himself continiously so boring now.

Are the listeners really interested in his bathroom ensuite and him sitting playing games all day, and boring pub quizzes.

Alot of the usual stuff I think now has had it's day, he will always get new listeners, but probably at the expense of the old ones.

I think he's starting to recognise something needs to be done. But alot more needs to be done

but to be fair, Moyles has always been at his best when he had no features to do and it was just chat made up on the spot.

Too many features on the running order always seems to take away the spontaneous funny bits.

maybe just alot to worry about and prepare for i guess.

True, but the only problem is the chat now is nearly the same chat everyday and recently is has been a load of crap. Only the other day they were saying Hi to people on air - desperately trying to make comments to make it some how funny, failing miserably.

Remember this is Radio 1's breakfast host, I think alot of people expect a bit of effort somwhere.

Yeah, there's no way you can win a Sony just by turning up and hoping to have a good conversation.

I agree the spontaneous bits are what makes the show, but I think it'd be pure laziness not to have any new ideas. And at the moment most of his conversations consists of him having a really big ego at the moment, being hungover, being ill or some sort of pub quiz.

Colin and Edith aren't completely my cup of tea, but they seem to have a good balance and they're the ones that picked up the award.

When you tune in at seven Moyles never knows where to start, and it isn't until about 8 he starts going. To simply leave an empty slot where Buzz Off was is a bit lazy in my opinion, as this where the talks are pretty dull.

Scott has done the same thing though, he's dropped the celebrity call and the Fact Hunt, and brought nothing to replace them.

Yeah I've said this elsewhere already, but what's the obsession with having to have new features all the time when the old 1s work fine etc?

Well why axe the celebrity call if he's not going to do anything instead?

same argument as with Buzz Off... tho I'm agreeing with you on this, I see no good reason to drop them, especially if theres nothing to replace it.

I couldn't decide if you were agreeing with me or not.

Fair enough, drop the feature, I know a few people who hated the celebrity call. But now with the celebrity call not there I don't have any good reason to make sure I'm listening at 4:10 or 6:10.

Scott has loads of features that aren't fitted to any time slot anyway which have just filled these places.

He hasn't filled them with chat about nothing, chat on Scotts shows raise a point of discussion for the rest of the show which then further develops 'through the show' with listener input.

Seriously, the lurgie? Lazy broadcasting. Moyles used to be miles better than this!

Right then, to go:

- Stupid f*ckin ticket giveaways. Give them to Mills or Nemone or someone.
- Boring football predictions and chats with Ray Stubbs (are we supposed to care what they think the scores will be?)
- The lurgie (agree with McQueen - that takes stuff to a new low)
- Rob DJ's Monday Night Pub Quiz (seriously? this would have filled ten minutes on the afternoon show - not the peak time hour for six months running)

I would keep Carpark Catchphrase and Half Time (although that has been rubbish recently), definitely scrap Tedious Link for a new music based feature, plus try and put a bit of effort into links for a change. Yes Moyles is better when its spontaneous, but he used to go through the papers and have things to say - now its like hes always struggling.

Also, after nearly 2 years on the show I've changed my opinion and think Rachel is dull and should be day producer. I agree with what Bob said the other day, bring back Greyhead as show producer.

I think Moyles still has it in him, but I've been listening since 2000 and this is possibly the worst I've ever heard the shows (although yes the one yesterday was good). By all means they've been sh*t before, but who can actually remember any great moments since the new year?

I agree with all these comments.

The tedious link sounds really tired and uninspired these days. We're getting to the point now when Dave is repeating songs for the third time...

Half time is, and always has been a complete waste of time. I actually find myself switching off when Dave does the customary 'Let's get ready to ramble' - it just isn't funny anymore.

Oh and it really pisses me off the way Moyles talks over the news.

/end rant.

I think the thing that works the best with Moyles is his sense of spontaneity and interaction with the team. Although we know that the show is meticulously scripted, even in the old days, he could pull a feature out of the hat that was really quite crap in theory, but worked hilariously on air (Newsfeat, 'Let's go on the roof', etc.).

Return to your roots Moylsey and we'll be back to the glory days. And bring back Greyhead. The show really needs a producer with some charisma again...

Have to agree with MC.

I don't find half time that bad, but then again it's very rare that I actually get to listen to that hour.

What does everyone think of the new proposed feature this morning? (Sending in nearly nuddy pictures of listeners to be voted on)

I think its a cheap rip off of Scott Mills' idea to be honest.

Yeah, I know, he has Rate My Listener, Flirt Divert et al., but I think a show is better if it does things at set times, then you know what to expect and you know what time to listen if you're a fan of a particular feature. That's just my opinion.

The trouble with the Tedious Link is that, by it's nature, it's always Dave's choice in song. From my experience, Dave's music taste, while varied enough, is very predictable. It would be better if the team took it in turns to do links to songs they love, or even better, invite listeners to write their own tedious links (I think Bob suggested this a while ago).

OK thanks, good to know. Does anyone have the cat[…]
