The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

..................................Getting sick and tired of "One Big Weekend" promo's, and whats worse once when the event is over, the next two weeks after, it will be tracks of all who played live! at "One Big Weekend".

And I thought nothing could have got worse than the Comic relief text number mention!

I'm off to hibernate

Fair enough plug it cos its been organised but everyone must know by know. 30000 listeners out of 7 mil or whatever is not a lot. Bring back normal shows

to be honest i think the choice of venue and events that radio 1 put on are really good. they go to places usually ignored by commercial organisations and put on things people want to go to.

hmm... that was too nice for me.

I was on holiday during the last One Big Weekend, so I kind of escaped it all, but it doesn't surprise me, it's one thing after another with Radio 1, we're only just recovering from all that Red Nose Rally stuff! What next?

It's talked about too much though. It's just crap filler material when they go on about it "oh im so excited, im even more excitied than the last link" - who cares, im not going so couldn't give a monkeys.

Amnd the "Are you readyyy" jingles are shit. The best thing about the OBW's were the beds of all the artists mixed together.

Yeah. They plug the event just too much at times. I've turned Radio 1 off for a couple of weeks.

Grey power radio triumph for veteran DJ's

Terry Wogan
RADIO 2's veteran DJs have scored a victory for grey power after pulling in record audiences. Terry Wogan, Ken Bruce, Steve Wright and Johnnie Walker - combined age 231 - now have more listeners than ever.

Jeremy Vine, a spring chicken by comparison at just 39, has also achieved a listening record. Audience figures for the first quarter of 2005 were released by industry body Rajar.

Breakfast show host Wogan, 67, now has 8.09 million listeners - up from 8.05 million at the end of last year - extending his lead as the nation's most popular DJ.

Walker, who recently turned 60, is up to 5.21 million for his drivetime show. Bruce, 54, who hosts the station's mid-morning programme, now has an audience of 6.63 million. And Wright, 50, added 400,000 listeners in the last three months to reach a new audience of 6.8 million. Vine, who took over from golden oldie Sir Jimmy Young, has 5.82 million listeners.

Radio 2 now has 13.33 million listeners - and a record 16.5% share of Britain's radio audience. Meanwhile Radio 1's audience is up slightly to 9.96 million.

Breakfast show host Chris Moyles has 6.17 million listeners - up 240,000 on the same time last year but down 120,000 on the previous quarter.

Over at London station Capital FM, Johnny Vaughan has added nearly 200,000 listeners in the last six months and now has 1.24 million.

The BBC's digital stations have piled on listeners in the past three months.

Comedy and drama station BBC7 shot up from 391,000 to 556,000, while indie station 6Music rose from 238,000 to 311,000 and urban music station 1Xtra was up from 290,000 to 350,000.

To be honest I've not been listening much lately. I get really turned off by the pub quiz and football chat. Bring back the random rants about celebs etc.

They seem to be going to a hell of a lot of trouble to make sure nobody calls it 'One Big Weekend'. Yesterday I heard Radio 1 play clips of people talking about last years big weekends, and they were saying stuff like "The big weekend in Derry was fantastic" or "The big weekend in Birmingham was huge" etc.

What the hell is the reason for the change, and why are they so desperate that nobody calls it One Big Weekend?

OK thanks, good to know. Does anyone have the cat[…]
