Where does this 'catchphrase' originate from? Am I right in thinking Chris got it from Scott Mills? If so, where did he get it from? I've got a couple of clips of Chris Morris doing it some of his early radio shows (one from 1993 and another from circa 1989) in his "Wayne Carr" character, but is it really some famous contemporary reference that I'm totally unaware of?

I always assumed that it was from that Robin Williams film, the name escapes me at present, but it was set in Vietnam.

"Vietnam DJ"?

I see what you mean, but that didn't really spring to mind. I'll upload one of the clips of Morris doing it (twice) and you'll hopefully see what I mean. It's all in the tone of the voice, in that really cheesy DJ style. From what I remember, thingy in Vietnam Disc Jockey wasn't really cheesy.

I've got to say, this sketch really is hilarious, especially at the end when he has to pad to hit the vocal, something that regular listeners to Moyles will recognise.

I remember Scott doing it when taking the piss out of a Scooter track then it carried on from there with all the listeners ringing up and doing it.

Yeah, I thought it was a Mills thing too. Circa 2003.

Colin Murray has been trying it recently, really shouldn't.

Same with "rrrrrrrrrubbish" that they all seem to do. Mills was the first one I noticed doing it, but a DJ on Power FM (south coast station) has been doing it for ages! IIRC Mills used to work at Power FM.

I was always under the impression that it was Mills that started the "good mornin'" catchphrase while on early mornings, and then Moyles started using it.

moyles has been using it ever since he started the breakfast show, ive only recently found mills using it when describing some one as g'mornin. rate my listener etc.

Here's another clip where Chris Morris in his Wayne Carr character says it again. The similatiry in tone really is almost uncanny. This is another clip from around 1993.

if i remember correctly it started off back in the early breakfast days of scott mills- if the topic of conversation was ever heading off in a dodgy direction he used it in a cheesy dj kinda way to change the subject! so every time the conversation got smutty he would say good mornin in a cheesy dj kinda way and think it just stuck from there! i think!
