It's not a gimmick. It's my pet project and it could potentially be a pretty ground breaking way of interacting with the audience if done in the right way.

My idea is to build a community of VIP Moyles listeners who'll have more than the normal radio show that's broadcast. This week is about building a large base of users and then the next phase after the holidays is providing them with VIP content, including queue jumps for competitions, more interactivity with the team and bonus stuff.

Pretty cool gimmick huh?

Aled, what are the chances of a non-windoze version of Mini-Moyles coming out? The linux version I'm making is it at a very early stage and currently has no gui and you have to decode the messages by hand, so any help with porting it, from anyone, would be great.

i dont understand the point of producing stuff and then only letting a number of people see it. ok so they are happy but it just excludes others especially those who dont have their own computers.

As long as it's more than just say one week of exciting features and then just bog-standard messages for a year like it seemed to be.

Sounds good though

Well currently I'm writing it in perl, which should be multi-platform, but a java one ceartainly would. The only problem though is that I haven't done Java in about 7 years, although I suppose it would give me an excuse to re-learn it.

It's experimental. We're going to throw lots of different stuff at it, see what bits people like, what bits they don't like, look at take up figures, when they're read, what percentage of people react to it etc etc. It could even be that we drop Mini Moyles in a few months but the informtation will help us deisgn the next few generation of interactive stuff.

If we went quiet for a few weeks that alone would provide us with info, how long people are willing to keep it, how many people like hearing just behind the scenes stuff and so on.

The project is very early on with us too so for the first version we've made it for the widest group of users possible - which at the moment is Windows (sorry), if it were to take off and the BBC felt it was worth spending more License Fee on the project then it could be rolled out across other platforms.

We hope to be able to help with that soon - watch this space.

if the interactivity meant the chances of your messages getting read out on air doubled then it would be better.

A blow up Chris Moyles and you can write your messages on a speech bubble. Comes close to BBC interactivity.

Nevermind then, I'm sure we'll get enough money without you.

Anyway, for anyone that uses MiniMoyles have the 'Tedious Link' Poll in their messages history, I need you to help me. If you are willing, and of course able, then I should be grateful if you would set your MiniMoyles proxy to vimaginations.zapto.org (port 80), do the poll and then PM or email me to say that you've done it. The purpose of this, in case your wondering, is to capture the URL it uses to send the info to.

Thanks for your help.

(BTW you can change the proxy back afterwards)

Aled,

I use OS X most of the time, which is shame as Moyles doesnt work on that. It would be good if there was something where you could sign up to.

What i'm trying to say is, that its unfair for those who don't use a Windows Operating System, are missing out on what could protentially be opened up to a much wider audience if the show simply incorprated something other than Mini Moyles.

Ideas could be either be a Mailing list or something similar where you had a log in or be sent an email every so often with the same items that you send via mini moyles.

OK thanks, good to know. Does anyone have the cat[…]
