Man, THAT IS CRAP!!!

Half the fun...in fact MOST of the fun of being a DJ is doing all the technical stuff - pre-fading your tracks, checking your levels, ducking the music so you can back-announce your records, performing beat-perfect segues...

All that's gone if you have a computer playout system.

Sod that - I don't wanna be a DJ any more. I'm off to be a postman...

They are not completley moving from mindiscs and cds - they only have 1 less minidisc player than before and they still have the same number of cd players in the studio

I must say, I do prefer using CD/MD to a playout/live assist computer. They do have their uses, but it takes a lot of the excitement out of doing the programme. They're best used for automation when there's no presenter present (great for hosp rad).

PS - Mark Goodier looks odd in this pic

Well, I'm just happy I still have a show to do in a ten-year old studio with continually failing kit at my disposal. Keeps me on my toes! :D - jc

I don't suppose anyone knows (Eddie - you said you worked there) what kind of Neumanns Radio 1 have in their studio??? Just wondering.

Haha yeah - I think it was the producer just playing the last bit of the show when mark decides to bugger off... cus dont forget that Webcam 2's clock is 10 mintues slow :p So it was actually 18:51 :p

Ah - I get the joke now. I wasn't quite sure before (I never thought to look at the time of the picture).

Also rememebr that when Mark does the whole Top 40 countdown at the end of the show just before they play Number 1, that's all pre-recorded. He can bugger off and go home at about quarter to seven!

Just looking at the webcam with Mary-anne Hobbs and I'm not sure which studio she's in but it looks like it's all new. There's a phone mount on top of the righ-hand MD rack and the left hand MD rack (just above the desk) has competely gone. There's also three computer monitors.

Is it just me being paranoid about RADIO 1 BEING SO STUPID AND USING COMPUTERS NOW or was it always like that and it's only now I'm noticing cos I'm looking harder??? I would have thought they would have waited until all the studios were done so that they could put them online at the same time and set them up on a network (which, although I hate to admit it, is quite a good advantage of computer playouts - no big programme box fill of CDs and MDs, just store them on the network and use them wherever).

Any idea why the chart finishes at 5 to 7?

...then again, maybe she's just doing her show from her normal studio (which is now re-vamped), but she's not using the computers. Hmmm. Never thought of that one...

Answer - Cos it's a shit producer who doesn't do his programme-clocking very well!!!

That is Y2 that she's in (I just checked the web cam) and for the record "Guest" David was right on the previous page when he said coxy comes from Y3 and not Y2. the studio set up is as such:

y1: Mills, Wiley, Moyles, Westwood etc etc

y2: Top 40, Mark & lard playback from Manchester, trevor Nelson, Moyles old saturday show, steve lamacq etc etc

y3: Coxy, backstage, dreem teem, Dave pearce etc etc

y4: Prepeartion room/studio: No live shows from here but some news items

Live lounge; as it says on the tin + phone room (i.e where Lizzie and other BA's sit to answer phones etc

And Funky Drummer - I have no clue what Mics they use (I'm not that technical) but all I will say is that I always got a massive buzz sitting in y1 and pulling down the mic that Moyles uses and putting the headphones on, always - I never got tired of that but I can't DJ to save my life (I'm very sad I know!)

Ah yes, but the chart finishes exactly at 6:55 *every* week, and I mean exactly - on the dot. If anything the producer uses the clock very well.

Mary Ann Hobbs is in Y2, the only studio thats yet to have been revamped. Things have been added (like the telephone rack) and things have been moved around (like the minidisc players) and there is only 1 extra computer (the playback system)

Sounds fun :D What did you do at R1? Was it work experience or were you working as a BA or something? I did PM you, but I'm not sure if it worked or not. Hope you don't mind me asking.

Hey! That's not very nice! It all started back in the good old days, on page 1, with me commenting on how good it was that Radio 1 were finally getting knew equpment and re-vamping the studios. That was before someone unleashed the terrible, terrible news that the re-vamp is to install a computer-playout system.

Bastards. DJing is an art form I tell you, AN ART FORM!!! You're ruining creativity!!! BASTARDS!!!

Rich

P.S. My friends tell me I get too emotional about things. Does anyone else think that?

I agree with you Rich...computers are good for automating overnights and such but they make it too easy, and therefore, less fun in my experience, when used for all the shows. But that's just my opinion.
