Then buy a CRT/LCD monitor and an adapter; all quite easy to find.

Not worth the hassle, its easier just to buy a tele.

Yes, it is, but with a 'tele', you need a TV license.

Thats my whole point. I suscribe to Sky because I want their services, where as with the BBC you have no choice, their services are forced upon you. In this day and age thats not short of being a criminal act.

You could emigrate; sounds like a choice to me. Besides, they're not forced upon you. You don't need a TV, you want a TV.

Yeah, New Zealand sounds good, their people had the balls to stand up and tell their government to stick the license fee up their arse.

If memory serves, I think the reason New Zealand no longer have a tv license fee is because they started showing commercial adverts on it's channels (becoming a commercial entity as opposed to a public one); something the BBC doesn't do.

If opinion polls are anything to go by though, its maybe about time they did start showing ads or offer a subscription service. Not much chance of that though is there? If they weren't raking in eight million a day the fat cats would have to take a pay cut and the government wouldn't have the safety offered to them by the BBC and vice versa.

Which opinion polls are they then? I for one love the BBC because it doesn't air commercial adverts, I would hate it if it suddenly did. The beauty of the BBC is that they take risks on shows that commercial stations wouldn't go near, The Office is probably a prime example of this.

no, anyone who pays it is law abiding.
i thought it was law that you had to pay it!

You can buy them because they're used at shows at the NEC etc.

Here' s a recent (2001) Mori Opinion Poll about the Licence Fee...

In percentage-
The BBC should continue to be funded from the licence fee 35
The licence fee should be replaced with other sources of funding 56
Other 6
Don't know 4

Opinion poll after opinion poll shows that the majority of people in this country do not want the television licence fee. The government arrogantly ignores public opinion.

Don't get me wrong, although I have no particular interest in the BBC's television channels, they do a good job, however, if handed three billion pounds a year even derekacorahsdad could run the BBC efficiently.

It is law, its the government basically handing the BBC a license to extort money from people who don't want their services.

What if you spend three grand on a telly, then decide to sell it a few months later.

For sale: Plasma screen television set, can't be used to watch television. £2000 ONO.

Watch the buyers inundate you with phone calls.

So is that your justification for not having a TV licence?

This reminds me of those driving without insurance or not declaring mods threads on car forums...

So, after reading all that, i gather a guy who wants to Listen to the BBC and watch it, but doesnt want to pay for the services.

You remind of the that old guy of Corrie who complained to the Builder when he quoted a reasonable price. And Cilla.

As it is law to pay your TV license, then you should do it. There is a reason we have Laws - so this country doesnt descend into Anarchy. Thats why we have sanctions as well. I Believe its a Criminal offence, not Civil, so you may well be fined.

Also, you can't watch Football on the Internet. and Most importantly - you Can't download ANY of the clips from BBC sources on this website, as you were not in a position (legally) to receive them from the original broadcast. Commercial is ok.

Big difference there. I have car insurance because I want to be insured incase I crash my motor, I don't have a tv licence because I have little or no interest in the BBC's television broadcasting.

Jimmy_Lemon wrote:Do you vote whytie? (if you are old enough)

No, I don't vote, despite being old enough. Every party is as bad as the next so I don't see the reason behind it, although I must admit the BNP have some interesting points. Mainly on immigration and tougher sentencing.

You remind me of a 63 year old housewife. It's hardly the crime of the century is it? I don't like being forced to do something I don't agree with, unlike you apparently, if you want to conform to the rules of Tessa Jowell, thats your choice mate, personally, I have my own free will and will never ever purchase something which I don't want to. I've been over two years with no licence now, so even if I do get caught, its been worth it, seeing as how the average fine is 150 smackers.

Listen you guys, I have had this argument a million times over, it's boring to me. So lets end it here. If you want to be told what to do, in a day and age when we are supposed to be an un-oppressed and free country, thats your choice. Maybe when you move out of mummys house and have to foot this out-dated tax yourself you will realise its a crock of shit.

My final word is this, the only decent thing to come out of the beeb IMO is radio 1 and Moyles in particualr, and I would gladly subscribe to that if the need arose.

How did you know i was only 17?

I would vote if i could. Its up to you what you do without your TV license and your Tv with no tuner.

End of.

However, i will just add, Radio 4 make some fine comedy.

The 88 at the end of your name was a give away. Regards radio 4, you could be right mate, but I've never tuned in, I just can't see past radio 1.

I am happy to pay my TV Licence, I've lived away from home for three years now.

As regards the voting thing, I think you lose your right to complain about the state of this country if you don't vote. When you look at the BNP and other far-right parties properly, you realise that their policies on immigration are too extreme... Do you have a hatred of black people?
By handyandy88
#234565
I have a hatred on some policies of the Left ones. Why, at 16, can i win millions, smoke my life away and decide what treatment i have if i'm Ill, and at 17 i can drive, but only at 18 can i decide who makes the laws i have to live by. I pay NI (albeit a small amount) yet i can't decide who gets to spend my money.

Somethings not right. Either lower the voting age, or raise everything else.
