The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Yes. I had to laugh at the comment they made today,

They had just played Take Control by Jamieson, which they clearly hated, and Radcliffe says:

"You know Lard, we really should stop playing songs we just like or they will sack us."

Saturday afternoons on Radio 2 should be good with them. I always listen to Alice Richardson on a Saturday, and it will be good to hear Mark and Lard in that place. All we need now is to get rid of Sara Kenneddy. I heard a bit this morning, god awful. In one of her better links, she was talking about Foxes, and how one was in her garden. It's like going round to some old persons house and having to put up with stories when you'd rather be somewhere else.

Yeah, I used to have to listen to her show in the morning pre Moyles in order to avoid Cox or adverts. She is so bad, she can't work studio equipment for her life resulting in frequent minute long silences when she suggests that we "talk amongst your selves" whilst she rants about how bad the studios where. She would also read the headlines from papers to reveal her lack of general knowledge and strong Tory bias. It was always the best when she was away and Alex Lester stood in.

Enough ranting.

Didn't think there was an age you had to be. Radio2 will get younger listeners who like the younger Dj's of Radio1 with the music of Radio2. Could be a good move.

I always thought Zoe Ball would come back to Radio 1.

In that article it says she's just presenting a documentary on rave culture, not actually joining the station. She's just quit XFM to spend more time with her family so I doubted she'd be joining full-time. Lamacq is being faded out at Radio 1 and has filled in for Bob Harris a couple of times (as well as having a 6 Music show) so that move would make more sense.

As for Dermot, I always thought Radio 1 would sign him up.

Radcliffes new Radio 2 show has been confirmed as Monday-Thursday between 10:30 pm and midnight from the end of March.

From the report I read, it seems that Radcliffe is replacing Allinson, but Alinson isn't get any more shows other than his Saturday afternoon show. Less Allinson = Bad. Why the hell are they keeping Kennedy in place? Are these people crazy?

They did practically say she could if she wanted. She even presented a couple of weekend shows after she left, as I remember. I don't think she has actually left XFM, just Fridays I think. She must still be younger than some R1 DJs.

Lamacq is good on R2. He certainly has eclectic tastes in music; he could be on any station.

Signing up Dermot is just odd.

All Lamacq, O leary and Ball will be joining the swing jocks circuit on radio 2 and doing the occasional documentary v/o

Kate Thornton, The Blue Room's Chris Coco and Radcliffe have all done documentary voice overs....

ANYTHING.... has to be better than a Matthew Wright fill in slot, probably made Johnnie Walker come back quicker!!!

Kate Thornton has filled in for Allinson on several occasions. Can't say I enjoyed it.

Anyone can present the documentaries, people like Radcliff are just brought in to draw in listeners. It's quite a fickle station, really.

Dermot is going to present a 'regular music programme'; if that is a documentary, I don't know.

For fans of lazy journalism:

The Independent wrote:Two of the BBC's biggest stars have launched stinging attacks on the corporation over the quality of its programming on television and radio.

Sir David Attenborough will tonight accuse the BBC, already reeling from its rough treatment in the Hutton report, of concentrating on lifestyle shows rather than public service commitments.

The DJ Mark Radcliffe, known for his irreverent pairing with his BBC Radio 1 sidekick Marc "Lard" Riley, has fired a parting shot at his bosses by admitting he "hates" the music he is forced to play.

Sir David - a former controller of BBC2, who has made award-winning landmark natural history programmes such as Life on Earth - says classical drama and science are being neglected.

His attack comes in an edition of Panorama, "What's the Point of the BBC?", which is the latest act of self-flagellation by the BBC in the wake of the Hutton report.

During a studio debate he says of the corporation: "I think there are great areas of drama which it doesn't tackle, classical drama of one sort or another.

"Science has one programme on BBC [television], but very little on BBC1, and it should be at the core of what people should be interested in and be learning about.

"So if you have three programmes on gardening, then I would suggest you drop one of them, or maybe even two of them and do some of these other things."

On Friday nights, BBC2 occasionally schedules three gardening shows back to back.

Sir David's views come almost a year after the BBC's former director-general, Greg Dyke, said BBC2 would be "reducing its reliance" on leisure programmes.

Perhaps ironically, former Gardeners' World host Alan Titchmarsh is stepping into Sir David's shoes to front a new BBC natural history series.

Mr Radcliffe aired his views as he prepares to leave Radio 1 after more than a decade at the station to take up a late-night slot on Radio 2.

The move signals the end of his partnership with Mr Riley, who is being given his own Saturday afternoon show on the BBC's digital station 6 Music. The duo built up a cult following playing credible tracks on their old 10pm show on Radio 1. However, the afternoon show they have hosted since 1997 has meant they have been increasingly obliged to play chart hits from the station's playlist rather than the obscure classics they championed.

Station bosses are believed to have taken advantage of the pair's contract coming up for renewal to end their tenure at Radio 1. Both presenters, who are in their 40s, are much older than the target audience of under-24s.

Speaking about his move, Mr Radcliffe said: "I'm looking forward to not hating the records quite as much as I have recently.

"It's been a bit difficult at Radio 1 for a while - but I'm a 45-year-old bloke, it's not what I like. There's not much there for me, which is why I'm leaving."

Mr Radcliffe, who has worked for the BBC for 20 years, initially as a producer, said he and Mr Riley had pondered whether they should keep the double act going.

"In the end the decision was taken out of our hands," Mr Radcliffe said.

A spokesman for Radio 1 said: "Mark is completely entitled to his opinion."
