To quote Peter Griffin in 'Family Guy';
"Optimus Prime? He's Jewish?!!"
I picked up the new Transformers: Armada Optimus Prime for £15 the other week, it was £40 when it came out. Dunno if you've seen it, but when you transorm Prime from truck cab to robot, his trailer unfolds ITSELF to become a base! And then, to go to super robot mode, you turn Prime into upper torso mode, his base AUTOMATICALLY transforms into the giant legs!!!
You know, when I was young, we transformed Transformers by hand.....
I also have Unicron...you may remember him as the Orson Welles-voiced planet-gobbling Transformer from the movie...well you can get him now! Transforms from an 18" robot to a ringed planet with a gun turret! You gotta see it to believe it....his hand/eyes light up, and his fingers are poseable, allowing him to do 'devil horns' or to 'flip the bird'. Looks class on my shelf...........
Fun fact: Orson Welles died during production of that film; rumour has it co-star Leonard Nimoy recorded Unicron's final lines.....
For those who like their Transformers more 'old skool', Hasbro did re-release loads of old Transformers, including Starscream, Optimus Prime, and Hot Shot (formerly Hot Rod but they've had to change his name) in reproduction boxes. You'll have to go online for them now...having said that, my local Toys R Us had a few Optimus Primes and Powermaster Optimus Primes at bargain prices before Christmas; I must see if they're still there. Also try specialty shops like Forbidden Planet.
Megatron fans: they can't re-release the original Walther P-38 Megatron because of US gun laws; they did do a protoype with a bright orange muzzle, a blue/purple colour scheme to the gun, even THAT didn't get approval. He did get re-released in Japan, and some got imported to the US, so have a look online for him.
