Nick Grimshaw to replace Chris on breakfast

The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

but surely there should be two seperate platforms- the mobile one and the desktop one?

I honestly think Radio 1 online peaked in terms of content and usefulness (bar being able to listen again) in around 2002-3.

Yes, but if the desktop one looks like mobile, you don't have to do two sites.

The R1 site has kind of gone the way of social media where all content is used then chucked within a few seconds. Only a few pictures/vids hang around with anything useful made difficult to get to.

Not spending any money is probably a priority considering how much Moyles probably spent on amazing jingles over the past 8 years.

In my head it would be funny if Chris and the team used up the entire Breakfast Show budget for the rest of the year, so Nick Grimshaw had to present, do the news, sport, weather and produce the show...

He should interrupt his own who to also noisily open the door, empty the bins and noisily close the door again. :D

Supportive articles from the Sun bodes well for the media reaction:

does anyone else feel that having Fincham as Grimmys main producer provides continuity between the two shows ?
Hearing him will make the new show feel sort of familiar. That's if he gets to talk at all considering all this "added music".

I'm almost certain with the backlash the new breakfast show will get all mention of The Chris Moyles show will be banned.

I think Chris is the only one who's had 'The [name] Show' - all other breakfast shows have been called 'The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with [name]' haven't they?

I'm probably talking bollocks but didn't Chris call the show that to stop others pinching the format?

Nicks' done an interveiw in the Radio Times magazine and said that his brain works better in the morning. He has shown himself as a liar in my eyes considering that when he whent on Chris' show he said the complete opposite to that. I know it's all propagander but a lie is a lie and I'm inclined to beleive what he said on the show as he's more relaxed and would tell the truth more around that sort of environment.

While I don't buy the 'I've always wanted this', this interview has persuaded me that maybe it's worth giving his show a chance. He said there'll be a bit more music, which there always is with other shows, but he seems to still be keen on having chat in the show so maybe it's worth a try. Different from when I gave Scott a try in the morning and it was an hour long block of music, for example.

From what I took from that interveiw, I'd say he was transfering his late night show to the mornings. I will say now, That won't work. People are in a different mood in the mornings than of a night.

Grimmy was on Dev's show this morning when my alarm went off - he sounded awake, excited, a little bit nervous (he was in to do his Dress Rehearsal), and I like his voice. If I can ignore the teeny-pop stuff which it appears is going to form a significant part of the show content, I will cope with mornings ok I think.

I agree with the thing about Grimmy's voice though. It doesn't seem like the easiest voice to listen to in the morning.

Five minutes with Nick Grimshaw. Not seen him do a serious interview before, I think he seems quite credible.

...apart from the fact he says he always wanted the breakfast gig, despite saying the opposite to Chris in July. He said then that he felt like a fraud because the others before him always wanted the job, whereas he hasn't.

Changed his tune a bit, hasn't he!

Well, it has happened. On the Radio 1 website at least, Chris has been replaced by Nick Grimshaw's flash new pages. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/nickgrimshaw

Anybody else think that Grimmy is just keeping the seat warm for a year or so until Greg James gets the gig permanently?

Whoever took over from Chris is going to be on a hiding to nothing (because whatever they do will be compared to what has been the most successful breakfast show ever) so I wonder if they're putting Grimmy in in the same way that Mark Goodier took over from Simon Mayo for a few months before Steve Wright took the gig permanently?

It's a thought. I might be reading too much into it, but with The Chris Moyles Show there could only be one presenter. The new show is called The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw - to me that seems very easy to just put a new name after 'with'.

Whoever took over from Chris would have had a tough time in the beginning, and I think it's clear they have been grooming Greg for the top job for a while. I think he might get the breakfast show in about a year's time and be hailed as a new 'saviour'.

I've been tuning in & out of R1 all weekend and Jeeeesus...

"Grimmy's in the building today..."

"Grimmy likes this song..."

"So who will you be listening to at 6.30 tomorrow..?"

Bloody give it a rest, I so wanted to call in to Jamila and say "well actually I'll be listening to re-runs of Moyles"

Gemma Cairney (sp) must have been screetching about Grimmy, have to say although I wasn't a big fan of Edith I'd rather have her on weekend breakfast than Gemma, all she does is shout shout shout!
