Dear Techie Geeks

Postby charlalottie » Sun Jul 01, 2012 12:38 pm

I'm feeling quite optimistic that one of you lot may be able to answer my question as lots of you seem pretty competent when it comes to computers and stuff.

My problem is I've been downloading old podcasts that were missing from my ipod and not in iTunes directory any more but the problem is iTunes keeps putting them in music rather than podcasts. If I change the media kind under the get info window to podcast from music it just moves it to the recently added folder and not to podcasts.

Before anyone suggests it, I have been Googling but none of it makes sense to me as I know its something to do with I need to get the right tag for iTunes to read but I have no idea how to do it and did download one of the suggested programs to do it with but had no idea how to do it then and gave up. I

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it! I would love to get all of them together and in the right order just to keep my ocd on this kind of stuff happy again.

My solution would be to sack off iTunes in favour of a program like MediaMonkey, as in my experience it does stupid shit like that all the time. That's why I hate it and will never buy another Apple product as long as they force you to use it. But some Apple users probably will have a solution assuming that you want to keep iTunes.

Nic's right, use mediamonkey. In fact, use ANYTHING other than itunes, nasty, horrendous bloatware that it is.

There have been rumours that they are going to redesign it, which I hope they do.

Downloaded MediaMonkey to see if this would help. What's happened now is, it recognises that all but 17 of the podcasts I want to get onto my iPod are there but I can't transfer them to my iPod or anything as they just disappear when I try.

I'm getting very fed up of things being ridiculously complicated.

^See the above post.^
Not complicated.
Easy.
Why need in podcast folder?
Music folder in same place.

Right, let's try to unpick it. So you have podcasts that MM just doesn't recognise at all? Are these ones that are stored on your PC? Are they in the same folder as all the others?

Char wants them to appear in the 'podcasts' section of her mp3 player (if i've got this right?) - what mp3 player are you using?

Yeah, I'm trying to trace the problem back to the beginning, but not being an ipod user I'll probably fall at the last hurdle.

I'm using a classic iPod Nic. The issue is I want the files to go into the podcast part not the music part because they are podcasts and I want them to go with the other ones done by Adam and Joe so that all the 6 Music ones are together.

MM doesn't seem to recognise 17 of the podcasts even though they are in the same folder and have the same details as the other ones it has picked up. I think my next plan of action is to throw my iPod out a window.

Just read through it, it was the same thing I tried on Sunday. The program it suggests is ridiculously complicated and so I have no idea what 'tag' they mean to write the things they suggest as they are a lot of them. I think it probably would work if I can get my head round it.

The tag is the bit when you right click on the track and click Properties and summary, innit?

In the program there's about 15 things all called tags. I'm just really thick when it comes to stuff like this so that's why I'm so stumped.

Have you considered going back to basics and using one of these?

Quite often actually. I never had these issues when I used to record the chart show off and listen to it on my walkman. Those were the days.

When I bought my new Sony mp3 player I was pleased to find that they still brand them as 'Walkmans'.

For some reason last night, iTunes decided to actually work and put podcasts in the podcasts after trying changing the media type for the umpteenth time. However not in the right order and over two folders so its a right mess. Need to try and work out how to change the release date I think and why its decided some podcasts are different than others.

I think you can edit the year of the podcast but not the exact date. At least not through iTunes itself.
