Torch tour thingy

The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

It's coming to my 'hood on Saturday morning, and the local shopping centre has said it's opening at 7am to cater for any customers that might want to shop while they are in town at that time for the torch.

A cynical person would say they are just cashing in on it.

Well yes, they're a business so presumably 'cashing in' on opportunities to make money is their aim...

The crowds are already there so you would expect them to take advantage.

But they will be wanting staff to get to work earlier than they normally would, which will be more difficult when most of the main roads in town are closed.

My work are just asking the people who live locally to work on the day it comes through here. Which is a pain in the arse as I live about a minute from work.

I must admit at first the torch relay feature left me cold, but over the past few weeks my interest has been growing, and when it through my part of the country I have to say I did get excited.

I do have one gripe, this torch tour Chris and the team are on it seems to me to just looks like a nice two day mini break which just happens to be where the torch is travelling through. A better idea would of been to have the team at whatever location the torch will be starting from (like tomorrow in Nottingham) and done an outside broadcast on stage with a live local crowd and that way you really get the atmosphere and excitement of the torch relay.
It just seems them being in Belfast and Edinburgh in a BBC studio while Dave or Tina spend a small amount of time just messing about in front of the torch cam trying not to get caught!!, to me seems pointless.

I'm sure in theold days they may well have done that but BBC budget cuts have probably stopped it from happening.

Of course, no doubt most of Radio 1s budget went on Jay Z and Rihanna's appearance fee at Hackney, yeah great!!

I just zone out whenever they talk about the relay. I am not particularly cynical about it, or indeed the Olympics as a whole, but I don't find any entertainment value in the relay whatsoever. Especially on the radio.

I just got back from watching it actually. Saw the torchcam horsebox they've been on about all this time as well. If they record it I might be able to see myself.

You might see me on Friday. Its due down the hill near my office at about 8:15 I think, and we are going to have a little "stall" thing at the side of the road - we've been allocated a spot! I'll be wearing a bright pink T Shirt if I'm there. Mind you, so will everyone else.

Does anyone know if you're able to rewatch the torch cam stream? Someone I know is running with it but I'll be at work when he does.

Yes you can. Everything is being archived on the BBC website for FULL watching again. Just go to the day your friend is running with the torch and scroll along the video to when he ran :)
