Oh no! I heard a while back that he was battling cancer and I remember hoping he'd beat it. Truly sad to hear.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed this morning to hear Chris mention MCA's passing but not even know his name, referring to him as "your man from the Beastie Boys". I appreciate that despite being the same age as me, Chris didn't grow up in an 'alternative' culture (urgh, hate that word) and so the Beastie Boys may not have been significant to him like they were to me. But I felt that he could have managed to check his name before mentioning it, especially given that the Beasties say their names in almost all of their songs - one of their biggest hits, No Sleep Til Brooklyn, even includes the line "they call me Adam Yauch, but I'm MCA." Hey ho.

I didn't think Moyles handled it particularly well, but the sentiment was genuine and the coldplay song was incredibly touching in my opinion.

Yeah, I didn't think that it wasn't genuine. It just would have been nice to hear his name. My flatmate and I agreed that the Beastie Boys were so important to us growing up that the loss of one of them is almost Cobain-like in its impact - they did such incredible, groundbreaking work. I s'pose I didn't really expect Chris to feel the same, but I would have liked him to speak a little bit about it rather than just mention it in passing. After all, Amy Winehouse got a half-hour tribute - and I loved her work too, but the fact that she's been in the charts more recently doesn't make her passing any less significant.

He did speak about it though. He said what impact they had and how relevant they were though didnt he? He encouraged listeners to download their songs as well.

Perhaps I missed some of what he said. I'll have to listen again at some point. All I remembered was a brief mention of the Coldplay vid, at which point he didn't know Adam/MCA's name.

Most of you probably havent heard of a guy called Ted Short, who died a few days ago, but fans of pirate radio do.He was the cabinet minister who was responsible for shutting them down in the 1960s. It obviously didnt worry him too m uch though cos he lived to 99! http://www.lep.co.uk/news/former-minist ... -1-4530958

Ha, I saw Tim Vine say he'd 'dyed' on Twitter this morning and just assumed it was a joke. (His follow up tweet was also is it too Sassoon for jokes?)

Donald 'Duck' Dunn, an influential blues and soul bassist and former member of Booker T and the MGs, died yesterday aged 70. RIP.

That gets a very sad "oh no" from me. She was sexy and cool and made great records. Oh no.

Oh no. Her music career was before my time and I'd not heard much from her probably because of that, but I know what a legend she clearly was.
I just checked out the photos of her on Zimbio and there are some of her singing live just a few months ago - she looks gorgeous, you'd never guess she was in her 60s, and you'd certainly never guess she wasn't well.
This is a real shame.

This.

Like many others, I first saw Dunn in The Blues Brothers, which I was a massive fan of when I was young. I remember my mum videotaping it for me when it was on late at night, even though I was far too young to really be watching films with bad language in :D

I didn't even know Dunn had died until I put 6Music on on Sunday afternoon, and Huey Morgan played a wonderful half hour tribute to Dunn, playing songs he played bass on. You really don't realise how many big blues hits had Dunn playing bass in the background!

Listen to the Dunn tribute here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b01hlfd1 it's about an hour in.

Couldn't resist posting Dunn's only line in the Blues Brothers :D

That really is sad news, esp after he seemed to be recovering from his recent bout of bad health and coming out his coma :( Another musical legend gone after Donna Summers. I really do hope that there wil be a Bee Gees song on the show tomorrow as a tribute.I k now its not 'target audience' but who cares!
