Which is the same with a lot of things, sporting events, cars, alcohol, holidays, jewellery etc.
Having said that, I always go to posh places on a lunch menu (which is usually generally half the price of dinner, for similar food) and ends up about £30-40 per head without wine - or I go on toptable with a 40-50% discount or set menu (which means the place won't be THAT posh)
The whole thing sounds a bit of fun though, especially if thats your interest.
The trouble for me if i ploughed in regardless into it would be i would have no real base line from which to test it. For most of the dishes, i wouldn't know if it was good or not as i would have had nothing much to compare it to.
Given that my favourite meals are a big 'f*ck off' Ulster Fry complete with all the breads & farls & beef sausages (hold the black pudding though) & a lamb rogan josh washed down with Tennants then,i'm possibly not cut out for that sort of hobby anyway.
