Moyles and Mark & Lard Archive - Discussion & Request Thread

You're gonna need mp3 as audacity won't open the ra files. Just whack them into real player converter to convert. And presumably the DVD is waiting at uni for me. I'm not back for a week and a half.

Yeah you'll need Realplayer Converter. It's a great program. If you have the hard drive space, then ideally convert them to WAV, then edit them, then save them as MP3. It should retain some of the audio quality a bit.

Got my DVD's too Jamie.

I looked up on the 2005 shows in the vault (know Janurary - April 05 is on here now, just need Johnny to update the vault) and I think a few of them are missing, which I assume jamiec didn't have when Ian was editing them unless there weren't shows on those dates. Here is the list of supposedly missing shows:

Monday 23rd & Tuesday 24th May
Friday 27th May
Monday 30th May (bank holiday I assume unless the previous week was it).
Tuesday 31st May
Monday 29th August (again probably a bank holiday)
Monday 21st November

Wonder if Mike has these shows.

30 May and 29 August 05 were definitely bank holidays.

Should do, i'll upload May when I get chance and if that is all that is needed then I'll try to fill in any holes.

Monday 2nd April 2012
Tuesday 3rd April 2012
Wednesday 4th April 2012

I've got all those, bar the bank holidays, obviously. I was editing down the first 4, which I didn't have but got sent, and I seem to have the original RA file of 21st November. I must have sent that to someone, if all the rest got done. I'll upload those edits of May 23, 24, 27 and 31. Big thanks to p3x595 for sending them to me, he's sent me some more I didn't have as well, just haven't got time to editing those down yet. All in good time. We should have a healthy stream of archive shows coming now, seeing as 2006, 2007 and 2008 have been released into the wild.

Would anyone have the time to create a blog page to put some of these shows on? My thinking is that you could more easily navigate them by original show date, and you could also nick the running order from the Moyles website, and reviews from this site and individual sound clips, tedious link info etc. and put them on that day's page. Unless there's some way of integrating that facility into chrismoyles.net , although I suppose having potentially an extra page for each of the 1700+ shows would slow the site down somewhat...

Here are the edited versions of those final 4 May 2005 shows, all in 1 RAR file. If someone can mirror them at Internet Archive, that would be great.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. I can set up anyone who wishes to add to this skeleton model if they like.

How much work will have to go into that though?

And I'll get those 3 shows uploaded for you when I can.

To be honest - just a lot of copying and pasting. It's just a case of putting whatever content is on this site and the official site and other places into one place, for each show. I reckon the official site will be deleting old bits as the website evolves, and also when Chris leaves. It's impossible now to access all the content that was created for the afternoon show, and the same will happen to the breakfast show, once Chris moves on.

Thanks for that Jamie. Won't be downloading them at this point as I am just currently rolling along downloading shows from November 2004 so still have a good chunk of shows to listen to before I get to them.

* * * *! My hard drive appears to have crashed! Bollocks! Had all the Moyles shows on there. Plus over 100gb of films and 300gb of TV Shows. I'm hoping this can be recovered somehow. It currently is trying to make me format it and won't let me read any of the files. *! :@

Nasty. But at least it sounds recoverable. First thing I would do is head over to the fantastic PC Help Forum:

Right, I've tried posting there. Hopefully they can help. It must be recoverable if the blu ray player can read every file on the hard drive.

They'll definitely be able to help, they've helped me with so much stuff over the years. Have you got a USB hard drive for backing up? I've got loads of stuff backed up, but now my university course is over it's only really my Moyles archive that I care about.

Edit: I got page 100 :D

This is an external one atm. I will buy a backup hard drive now though I think if I can get this sorted.

Yeah it would be worth it, if only for the most essential data. You could even get an older 3.5" one (which requires it's own power supply) to save money.
