My thoughts entirely.

One thing which has grated me this week is the playing of Tulisa's new single every day. Chris even keeps plugging it, telling us when it will be released.

I thought the BBC wasn't meant to get involved in corporate/advertising stuff? How fortunate that they get a pop star to sit in on the show for a week, who just so happens to have a new single out.

Wouldn't surprise me if she didn't get an appearance fee for doing the show, in exchange for Radio 1 playing her single and Chris plugging it!

They're allowed to feature content, but they're not allowed to excessively favour a particular commercial venture. Eg. When they did James Bond day vs. the time when Radio 1 did Harry Potter day.

I'd imagine that music doesn't fall under that remit, and once a show probably doesn't count as excessive. As it didn't when Olly Murs was in for a week - and playing a song very day on the same show would probably be commonplace for Radio 1 as long as it's already on playlist.

Also, I don't see the problem with Tulisa picking up a fee for appearing as a show contributor for 12 and a half hours (even if her contributions weren't particularly good)

We played it twice in 4 days which is normal for a playlisted song

I wonder how many plugs it got though even if not actual plays?

Not trying to be 'clever' since I switched off on Monday as I'm not a 'Tulisa fan' and only listened to the Golden Hour I've no idea. I'm just interested at what point would a singer saying 'my single is out on X date' fall victim to rules around 'undue prominence'.

The show hasn't been too bad last few days. Obviously missed Dave, but Tulisa was a capable fill in, after a slow start. Not the train wreck some might have feared. Not bad at all.

I didn't rate Tulisa at all this week. Like someone already said, very dull. Super Ollie is a far
better choice for the show. Top bloke.

I have to agree, I usually can't stand them having a holiday but it's been lacking for the last few weeks so hopefully the magic will come back after the break.

Good God all the Tulisia hate when she is merely a temporary addition? Blimey. Order another shipment of Prozac quick, her singles out at the end of the month.

I only listened to yesterdays but found her to be a refreshing change, she pipes up more than Tina anyday so she must have got the hang of it and dealt well with the attention being a celeb brings. She's also put me in the mood for a shepherds pie, I've often found them quite plain.

Well good for her. With singers you could do a lot worse and had she stuck around would've got better.

It was a nice change, better than same old Olly too.

A happy customer.

To be fair, she did get better as the week went on. Maybe it just took her time to fit the "team dynamic" as others have said here.

Five shows may only be temporary, but it's enough for people to form a fairly strong opinion. After all, we dissect links that lasted 10mins here - it's kind of the point of the site. So don't be surprised by it. And hearing her single is a totally different thing to hearing her participating in a 3.5hr radio show.

That's true. I think a lot of people were surprised to hear it had only been played twice :)

Oh, snap! I got served. :(

Still didn't like Tulisa on the show, even by Thursday. She just sounded monotone and bored, saying 'yep, yeah, uh-huh' to Chris, letting him do all the work :D

She contributed more to the show in 4 days than Tina has in 2 years.

I listened to Wednesday's show last night/this morning at work and she was a lot better than she was on Tuesday because I switched off after the pub quiz on Tuesday like I said as she felt like she was bored silly. I find it funny someone complains about the single being played every day when it was only twice in 4 days when that was pretty much the norm back in 2004 from what I listened to because there have been songs that were played every single day for a few weeks like Jamelia's Thank You, JoJo's Leave (Get Out) etc.

Will listen to Thursday's tonight probably except for the Golden Hour of course because it is lousy with the same old songs and the same old years. I would have a different opinion if they could play 80s music, which I prefer over 90s music by far.

Not a classic week. Maybe if I was a N-dubz fan it might have been good. Even though things improved slightly as the week went on, a lot of the chatter was dull and the lack of show knowledge diden't help things. There must have been plenty of other target audience relevant celebs who actually listen to the show who could have appeared this week?

Was a bit of a pity that the goodbye Matt featured seemed to get condensed to less than 10 minutes of airtime.

In truth they really had to stretch it out for him.

But the Never Forget singalong was quite good considering it gets overused. A good send-off.

Agreed, I only listened to the first 45 mins of each show this week but I didn't think she was that bad at all, but because she's part of N-Dubz (who I'm not a fan of to be honest but it's not my kind of music) people will slate her not matter what, look at the start of this thread some refused to listen as soon as they heard it was her.

Just to underline my opinion that the whole thing is a publicity stunt - I see today that now, as its all dying down, no-one is talking about it and no-one cares any more, Tulisa's dad has said in a newspaper that the whole thing has ruined their family....of COURSE it was deliberate, and this is a cynical attempt to keep it in the public eye as long as possible.
