Sorry, answered at the same time!

Topher wrote:...but it's a coffee shop! Surely they must have water constantly boiling and can just pour it over whichever flavour of coffee you order there and then?

If (at a peak time) 10 people are in the shop, and we take the following as read:

The process of taking a person's order takes 15 seconds

The process of making an average coffee (from hearing the order to handing over) takes 1 minute

All of these customers' orders will be processed in less than 3 minutes, whereas even with 2 people continuously making coffee it will take 5 minutes for all of the orders to be completed.

This leads to each person having to wait at least 20 seconds, with a conveyor belt of coffees - and not much space to wait in.

In reality it's much busier, and there will be a lot more than 10 people waiting - seems a sensible crowd control strategy to execute

Yes, definitely. That would be gross. And when you've got three different types of milk on the go, not very practical either.

I think I was assuming that pretty much all coffee was just varying flavours of each other and you could pour hot water and a bit of milk on it. It sounds a whole world of complicated. I imagine they do degrees in coffee variants.

This morning I just said it was Red. Shorter than my actual name and nobody else is likely to have it. But they know my order without me having to say it, so in my case it doesn't really matter. So annoyed I wasn't there to see Dan say Swarley!

Not degrees, but you can take exams and obtain a real qualification as a barista, and qualified baristas make a difference. Apparently. I agree, coffee is horrible so my information comes from Future Daughter In Law who is manager of a Caffe Nero. She doesn't like coffee either.

It may take slightly less time than getting the qualification to be a barrister.

Bounded out of bed this morning after an eight and a half hour sleep - got to work 30 mins early and tret m'sen to a lovely breakfast of a latte with a smoked salmon & egg muffin.

In a good mood, listening to Now40 - I've booked the karaoke venue for my birthday next week and I've got very little to worry about for the next week!

AND IT'S FRIDAY.

People who dont like coffee should be taken out and shot infront of their families

What if their family doesn't like coffee either?

I have actually tried to like coffee. Its more than just a drink, it represents a social activity, a whole culture almost - meeting for coffee, going for a coffee - yes I know it could as easily be tea, but not liking coffee can make you feel a bit of a misfit. So I have tried, quite often. Its * horrible though.

Do you know what its like to live & Norn Iron & admit to not liking tea?

I would have better PR if i was filmed pishing in a font during a baptism while wearing nothing but a hat made of kittens.

It is pretty funny... the Mail went a bit over the top with the photos though - did they need that many photos of people crossing?!

Tbh I presume the people teaching us are completely different to those people who construct random zebra crossings...

There aren't any people who 'construct random zebra crossings' - there are people who are paid by other people to paint them. The people who commissioned this presumably are in charge of the people who teach you.
