Current Carpark Catchphrase situation!

The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Three problems with the Golden Hour for me:

1. I dont want an hour of music. I want to listen to Chris and the team
2. If we do have to have the Golden Hour it should include music from well before 1990. I would say 1980 but I would settle for 1985
3 Chris shouldnt be the only one to choose the first half hours music. It is his show and it seems obvious he should make the choices, but he just picks crap songs week after week and they all seem so 'samey' to me. I would rotate it and give each team member the opportunity to pick the first half hours songs.

I don't think we should demand they talk for that hour - they clearly enjoy a few tunes at the end of a week - this is right and proper, whilst I'm not bothered by the samey tunes, I do wish for more themes, just to keep it different, and credit where it's due - they stepped up when Wacko died - dedicating half the hour to him - thats what it's all about for me, just not enough of that taking place is all, it doesn't even need to be topical.

Whilst I'm at it, Dave does love his 'All Saints' doesn't he? I've noticed theres usually a track by them in his tedious once every couple of months, or maybe it's cos I've been listening quite a few years now.

Hell.... just tell me I need my ears syringing - instead of me babbling on!

I'd normally be the first one asking for less music and more talk, but I'd always make an exception for a golden hour, provided that.....

2. If we do have to have the Golden Hour it should include music from well before 1990. I would say 1980 but I would settle for 1985

I completely agree. I can understand the reasoning behind the 'limit' but I don't agree with it, and I think it misrepresents the audience.

I think that point would solve itself with point 2.

You're telling me! Zoe - Sunshine On A Rainy Day, Pearl Jam - Alive (not that I have any complaints about hearing that one on the radio), Urban Cookie Collective - the Key The Secret, Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Life...all favourites of Dave. But I tend to assume that's cos he has a set of favourite records (like most people) that he just plays in a cycle, rather than cos he's told what he can and can't play. Maybe not, though.

I agree I think the format of the first half hour of the golden hour has to be changed. I would like to see the option of going further back than 1990, but its Radio 1 and management seem to think there was no good music before 1990 (odd song in the second hour is allowed but its seems not enough songs for a whole half hour!!). Like the idea mentioned about film soundtrack or maybe songs that have something connecting the songs/artists or another team member picking a year. but as it is now its just rubbish. Same in a way goes for tedious link, I do like some of the tracks he plays but it can get a bit samey, but thats not Dave's fault, would like to know what songs get turned down.

I don't have a problem with the 1990 limit, there's more than enough 80s references for a Radio 1 Breakfast Show in 2011. Any more would be pushing it.

Maybe they could copy our game and maybe Chris might choose Songs to masturbate to as has been requested on here before...

Now that would be a golden hour I would listen to...!

I say let the guy do what he does best. If you all didn't like what he was doing, you wouldn't listen in the first place. After saying that i do think the mid 90's do seem to get a bigger share of the golden hour than any other decade or year.

I dont, I listen to something else for the first half hour. I find out the songs and year by checking again on iplayer when home and find I did'nt miss much as the year and songs have been used so many times before. And of course the 90s will have the biggest share cause its the only full decade he uses, as the 2000s are to recent hence he never usually goes beyond 2004.

The Golden Hour is the primary reason why I am not fond of Friday shows overall. Mainly because of the fact some songs always gets played whenever that year comes around. Also, it sucks when a guest comes in on a Friday because that has to get in the way of things. Could be a great guest and having good banter but oh wait, it's 9 o clock so Golden Hour has to come now so you can stick around if you want but can't talk much.

I hate when the dance tracks are played because let's be honest, most of those dance tracks and the like are absolute pants and can't stand them whatsoever but I am not a huge fan of that kind of music anyway and it's why I hate David Guetta with his stupid dance beats and the like.

There are good songs that gets played in the rare occasion I listen to some of the Golden Hour and the team picks are a lot more interesting than the first half anyway and wish it was like that for the whole hour rather than just the second half. But it's going to stay probably the way it is despite some of us not liking its current format.

I get the feeling that all of the team and the majority of the casual listeners still like it - it's just the few who listen to a lot, if not all, of the shows, who are getting a bit tired of it, partly because the playlists are repetitive and partly because it's an hour of undoubtedly more entertaining radio is getting lost for a bit of cheese. My point really is that I wouldn't want the team to think that it's just the usual moaning from chrismoyles.net , there is some reason behind it. Get the feeling we'd get a "with respect, you're wrong" from them, though. It's not surprising there are a few grumbles about CPC and the Golden Hour now, they've been running for so long it's bound to happen at some point, especially if certain things are getting over repetitive (ie. same callers for 3 weeks, same years/songs every few weeks). One of the reasons we all love the show is because it's free-form, relaxed style is almost always fresh.

Yeah, glad CPC is enjoyable to listen to again and this morning's one is the reason why. Andi was losing it on the horn and would have been more funny if someone around told him to shut up the horn but was great. I'd say keep Andi on for a while if it stays this way. Kind of funny that Jack's been on for 4 weeks yet he hasn't actually won a match while some winners don't even last a week.
