Today's Tedious Link:

Michael Jackson, The Way You Make Me Feel

Today's Transcript:

A band-aid is what the Americans call a plaster. Plaster is a word associated with Paris. Paris is the capital of France, which is somewhere that you might go skiing. Skiing is best done in the mountains, which are what Shakira compares her breasts to. Breasts are something that women have and men don't. 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' was a number 1 for Elton John and Kiki Dee. In the alphabet, D is letter number four. Four is the second best score in the game of cricket. A cricket is an insect that makes noise at night by rubbing its legs. 'Legs' was a hit for ZZ Top in 1985. If you go forward just two years from 1985 you get to 1987, and Michael Jackson had a hit in 1987, which links to Michael Jackson and 'The Way You Make Me Feel'.

Flaws:

Several issues today. Crickets don't chirp by rubbing their legs together at all; in fact the sound is emitted by the stridulatory organ, a large vein running along the bottom of each wing, covered with "teeth" much like a comb. The chirping sound is created by running the top of one wing along the teeth at the bottom of the other wing; as a cricket does this, he also holds the wings up and open, so that the wing membranes can act as acoustical sails. Also, you can score five in cricket, so four isn't the second best score. And thirdly, Shakira doesn't compare her breasts to mountains, she says that "her breasts are small and humble so you don't confuse them with mountains", which is the opposite of a comparison.

Stereophonics, A Thousand Trees

Today's Transcript:

Michael Jackson's brother Tito has just finished a spell as judge on 'Just The Two Of Us', and his other brother Jermaine is currently on 'Celebrity Big Brother', but hasn't walked like Ken Russell. Ken Russell directed 'Tommy' and 'The Lair Of The White Worm'. 'Worm' rhymes with 'germ', and there are more germs on your chopping board than your toilet seat. A Seat is a type of Spanish car. Jimmy Carr came to our Radio 1 Christmas party, which was organised by Rachel Jones. Rachel announced yesterday that she is now engaged. Engaged is a word also associated with toilets. If you're looking for the toilets in an airport, you may see them indicated by the letters 'WC', which I think stands for 'wee closet'. The closet is what H from Steps came out of before going in the 'Celebrity Big Brother' house. H is Welsh, as is Kelly Jones of the Stereophonics, which links to Stereophonics and 'A Thousand Trees'.

Flaws:

'WC' obviously stands for 'water closet'.

The Beatles, Hey Jude

Today's Transcript:

Stereophonics collaborated with Tom Jones on their cover of 'Handbags and Gladrags'. Handbags are similar to manbags, which are carried by people like Chris Moyles and Jimmy Carr. Jimmy Carr shares the same first name as Jimmy Carter, who's a former President of America. The Presidents of the United States of America had a hit with 'Peaches'. Peaches Geldof used to go out with Donny Tourette, who was in 'Celebrity Big Brother' but didn't claim the prize. 'Prize' rhymes with 'Lies', which was a Guns N' Roses album released in 1988. 1988 was the year that the Olympics were held in Seoul, which is the capital of South Korea. South Korea borders North Korea, whose leader is called Kim-Jong Il. Kim-Jong Il shares one name in common with Kim Bingham, the former Page 3 girl who used to go to school with Dominic Byrne. Dominic is a big fan of all sorts of music including U2 and The Beatles, which links to The Beatles and 'Hey Jude'.

Flaws:

The Stereophonics didn't collaborate with Tom Jones on 'Handbags and Gladrags', it was 'Mama Told Me Not To Come'.

Chaka Khan, I Feel For You

Today's Transcript:

'Jude' rhymes with 'dude', which is a term of endearment used by surfers. Surfers' Paradise is a place in Australia, situated on the Gold Coast. According to the periodic table, the symbol for gold is au. 'Hey you' is how * attract each other's attention in public. Public is the opposite of private. Privates are what Ken Russell showed to Danielle Lloyd in the 'Big Brother' house when he bent over. Bent, first name Marcus, used to go out with Gemma Atkinson, who definitely hasn't had anything to do with Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. Manchester United are managed by Alex Ferguson, who's one of the many famous Fergies along with her out of the Black Eyed Peas and the Duchess of York. York is the capital of Yorkshire, which was one half of the War of the Roses against Lancashire, which is where Amir Khan is from. Amir Khan shares the same surname as Chaka Khan, which links to Chaka Khan and 'I Feel For You'.

Flaws:

Bolton, where Amir Khan is from, is technically part of Greater Manchester, not Lancashire.

The Grid, Swamp Thing

Today's Transcript:

'I Feel For You' features the harmonica-playing of Stevie Wonder, who is a legend, which is a word also associated with Zorro. Zorro wore a mask, and in that respect shares something in common with the Phantom of the Opera. Opera is popular in Italy, which is where Frankie Dettori is from. Frankie Dettori is very small, which is why he makes a good jockey. Jocky Wilson was a big name in the world of darts. In the darts last night, Ted Hankey was knocked out by Martin Adams, the Wolfman. Wolves live in the wild across much of North America. North America has many climactic environments, such as the frozen plains of Northern Canada and the deserts of Chile, as well as lakes and swamps. If you were living in an area with a big swamp you might be scared that living beneath was a swamp thing, which links to The Grid and 'Swamp Thing'.

Flaws:

Chile is in South America, not North.

Jane's Addiction, Been Caught Stealing

Today's Transcript:

Grid is a word associated with drains that you might accidentally drop your keys in, and also with the national power supply. Supply in the world of economics is directly linked to demand. Demand is also what Leo Sayer did when he wanted to go out of the 'Big Brother' house for some fresh air. Air are a French band who had a hit with 'Sexy Boy'. 'Boy' was the name of the first U2 album, released in 1980, which was also the year that John Lennon was assassinated in New York. New York is where you'd find Central Park. Central Park sounds a bit like Central Perk, which is the name of the coffee shop in 'Friends'. 'Friends' is a hugely popular TV series, which ran between 1994 and 2004. 2004 is the year that the Euros were won by Greece. 'Grease' is the musical which Simon Cowell is trying to find people for in his next TV venture. Simon Cowell is now a big name in America, a bit like Carmen Electra. Carmen Electra used to be married to Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction, which links to Jane's Addiction and 'Just Because'.

Chris: Right. Er...
Dave: No. Sorry. It links us to Jane's Addiction and 'Been Caught Stealing'.

Bros, When Will I Be Famous

Today's Transcript:

If you steal stuff and get caught, you'll be called a thief. 'Thief' rhymes with 'Keith', as in Keith Richards, who's the lead guitarist in the Rolling Stones. Rolling stones gather no moss. Moss, first name Kate, hasn't married Pete Docherty despite loads of speculation. Pete Docherty shares the same first name as Pete Townsend from The Who. 'Who Let The Dogs Out' was a hit for the Baha Men in 2000. The year 2000 is a thousand years earlier than the year 3000, which was a hit for Busted. Busted feature Matt Willis, who won 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'. 'Here I Go Again' was a hit for Whitesnake, which reached the top ten in 1987. If you go forward just three months you get to January 1988, which was when Bros released their debut single, which links to Bros and 'When Will I Be Famous'.

Flaws:

'Thief' doesn't really rhyme with 'Keith', but otherwise seamless.

AC/DC, Back In Black

Today's Transcript:

Bros launched Radio 1 FM when they flew round the UK in helicopters to switch on the new transmitters in 1988. 1988 was also the year that Simon Mayo started on the breakfast show. Mayo is what the Americans might put on their sandwiches. Sandwiches are what you might expect in a picnic hamper. 'Hamper' rhymes with 'scamper', which is how you might describe the movement of a rabbit. Rabbit is good in a stew. 'Stew' is an anagram of 'west', as in Adam West, who originally played Batman. Batman was remade in 1988 starring Michael Keaton, and also starred Kim Basinger, who also starred in '8 Mile'. 8 miles is quite a long way, and would take a while to run. 'Run' was a record by Snow Patrol, and is available to download on popular sites, unlike AC/DC which are harder to find, which links to AC/DC and 'Back In Black'.

Flaws:

Nothing to report today.

Texas, Halo

Today's Transcript:

'Back In Black', is a great record, as is Dennis Waterman's 'I Could Be So Good For You', both of which are available to download and get into the official chart. The chart on Radio 1 is the business of JK and Joel, who are well up on their non-movers. Non-movers refers to records on the chart that stick. A stick is something you might throw for a dog. Dogs are something you have to beware of. 'Beware Of The Dog' is the current single from Jamelia, who is a mother, and in that respect shares something in common with Mary from the Bible. 'Bible' rhymes with 'libel', which is something that might involve legal eagles. Eagles are large birds of prey, and also the name of a band best known for the classic track 'Hotel California'. California is a state in America, a bit like Texas, which links to Texas and 'Halo'.

Dennis Waterman with the Dennis Waterman Band, I Could Be So Good For You

Today's Transcript:

A halo is something you'd see on the head of an angel. 'Angels' is the title of a record by Robbie Williams, who wears a dress in his new video. 'Video Killed The Radio Star' was a hit for The Buggles, who featured Trevor Horn, who's now a producer and has worked with Seal. Seal goes out with Heidi Klum, who's from Germany, like Helmut Kohl. Coal of a different type is what you might find in a mine. 'Mine' rhymes with 'pine', which is a tree found in cold climates like Norway. Norway is in Scandinavia, as is Sweden, which is where Stefan Edberg is from. Stefan Edberg shares the same first name as Stefan Dennis, who had a hit in 1989 with 'Don't It Make You Feel Good'. Another song that features the word 'good' in the title is 'I Could Be So Good For You' by Dennis Waterman, which links to Dennis Waterman and 'I Could Be So Good For You'.

Guns N' Roses, Knockin' On Heaven's Door

Today's Transcript:

Dennis Waterman's daughter Hannah is in 'Eastenders', which is set in the fictional London postcode of E20. 20 divided by two is 10, which is the title of the debut album by Pearl Jam. Jam and marmalade are known as preserves. Preserved is how you might describe a woolly mammoth frozen in ice. 'Ice Ice Baby' was a hit for Vanilla Ice, who briefly went out with Madonna, who's now married to Guy Ritchie. Guy Ritchie directed 'Snatch', which starred Brad Pitt, who used to go out with Jennifer Aniston but is now with Angelina Jolie. If you swap the 'J' in 'Jolie' for an 'N' you get 'Nolie', which is an anagram of 'lion'. Lions are the king of the jungle. 'Jungle' rhymes with 'bungle', who was mates with Zippy and George. George Foreman is from America, as in Axl from Guns N' Roses, which links to Guns N' Roses and 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door'.

Flaws:

'Nolie' is clearly not an anagram of 'lion'. Additionally, on the same theme as yesterday's Seal/Heidi Klum mistake, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were married, not just dating.

Notorious B.I.G., Hypnotize

Today's Transcript:

Guns N' Roses were fronted by Axl Rose, who shares one name in common with Rose Tyler from 'Doctor Who'. Rose Tyler is played by Billie Piper, who's in the chart with a re-release of 'Honey To The B'. A bee produces honey from flowers. Flowers, first name Tim, used to play for Blackburn, who are now managed by Mark Hughes. 'Hughes' rhymes with 'shoes', which are what you wear on your feet to protect them from the cold and broken glass. 'Walking On Broken Glass' was a hit for Annie Lennox, who used to be in the Eurythmics with Dave Stewart. Dave Stewart is from Sunderland, as is Denise Richards off 'This Morning' with Phillip and Fern. A fern is a type of plant, and plants can be used for all sorts of alternative treatments. Alternative treatments also includes acupuncture and hypnotherapy. If you went to see someone for hypnotherapy they'd say they were going to "hypnotise you", which links to Notorious B.I.G. and 'Hypnotize'.

Flaws:

Prince, Let's Go Crazy

Today's Transcript:

Notorious B.I.G. is no longer with us, and in that respect shares something in common with Winston Churchill. Winston Churchill was Prime Minister during World War II, which is when Pearl Harbour happened in Hawaii. Hawaii is where they film 'Lost'. Lost in the world of missing pets is the opposite of found. 'Found' rhymes with 'pound', which is where you might have to look for your missing dog. Dogs come in all sorts of breeds, such as Labrador and Alsatian, which are also known as German Shepherds. Cybil Shepherd used to be in 'Moonlighting' with Bruce Willis, who has kids with Demi Moore. Demi Moore shares the same surname as Alesha Moore, who we know better as Pink. Pink mixed with blue gives purple. 'Purple Rain' is a classic album by Prince. Track one of 'Purple Rain' is 'Let's Go Crazy', which links to Prince and 'Let's Go Crazy'.

Flaws:

Texters suggested that Alsatians and German Shepherds are two different breeds, but wiki states that a "German Shepherd is also known as an Alsatian". However, a minor omission once again regarding celebrity couples, in that Bruce Willis and Demi Moore were married rather than just having kids together.

Today's Transcript:

Prince used to go out with Sheena Easton, who recorded the Bond theme for 'A View To A Kill', which starred Roger Moore. Roger Moore shares the same first name as Roger Whittaker, who's a well-known whistler. Whistler is the name of a ski resort in Canada. Canada is where Bryan Adams is from, who had a long-running number one from the film 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'. Robin Hood'd story has been retold recently in a tv series starring Keith Allen. Keith Allen teamed up with Alex James from Blur for the unofficial World Cup anthem 'Vindaloo'. Vindaloo is a type of curry. Currie, first name Edwina, once had an affair with former Prime Minister John Major. Major is a rank in the army. The army is important for protecting the safety of the nation, and in the olden days was directed by the King. If you combine the word 'king' with 'Leon' you get Kings of Leon, which links to Kings of Leon and 'Molly's Chambers'.

Flaws:

'The x-Factor''s panel of judges consists of Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh. Louis Walsh used to manage Boyzone, who include Shane Lynch, who is the brother of Edele and Keavy Lynch from B*Witched. B*Witched's first hit was 'C'est La Vie', which is French for "that's life". 'That's Life' was the show that made Esther Rantzen famous, who also appeared as a contestant on 'Strictly Come Dancing'. Today's Transcript:

Mars is a planet, which is in space. 'Space' rhymes with 'mace', which is what you might spray in the eyes of a potential mugger. If you remove the last three letters of 'mugger' you're left with 'mug', which is what you might have your tea or coffee in. Tea and coffee are both hot drinks that can be drunk with milk and sugar. Sugar can be cubed, as can numbers, for example ten cubed is 1000. A thousand is also known as a grand, which is a word associated with pianos. Pianos have keys which tend to be black or white. 'Black Or White' was a hit for Michael Jackson in 1991, the video for which featured George Wendt, who played Norm in 'Cheers'. 'Cheers' was set in the American city of Boston, which is named after Boston in Lincolnshire, which is where the pilgrims set sail from to get to America. Lenny Kravitz, It Ain't Over Til It's Over

Today's Transcript:

The lead guitarist of Kasabian is called Serge. The word 'surge' is associated with surfing, which is popular in places like Hawaii and Cornwall. Cornwall is famous for its pasties, which are made using mince. Mince is also a term for a camp walk. 'Walk The Dinosaur' was a hit for Was Not Was, who also had a hit called 'Shake Your Head'. Shake your head is what you'd probably do if a wasp had flown into your hair. Hair can be different colours, such as brown and blonde. Ulrika Jonsson is blonde, and she used to do the weather forecast, a bit like Dominic Byrne does now. Dominic Byrne shares the same initials as David Blunkett, who is a famous dog owner. Dogs have leads around their necks in the same way that humans wear ties or cravats. When you think of cravats in the world of American rock stars you think of Lenny Kravitz, which links to Lenny Kravitz and 'It Ain't Over Til It's Over'.

Flaws:

Pasties are traditionally made with chunks of beef rather than mince. Also, dogs don't wear leads around their necks, they wear collars - the lead attaches to the collar. And 'cravats' is clearly not the same word as 'Kravitz'...

'Saddle' rhy,es with 'paddle', which is what you do in a canoe. Canoes are popular with Eskimos, who use them for fishing. Fish is the business that you'd associate with John West. West is direcrly opposite East on the compass. A compass is also a spiky thing that you screw a pencil into at school when you need to draw a circle. 'Circle In The Sand' was a hit for Belinda Carlisle. Carlisle is in Cumbria and very close to the border with Scotland. Jesus received presents when he was born from the Three Wise Men. Another Wise man is Dennis Wise, who needs to provide a miracle for Leeds fans at Carrow Road tomorrow. Carrow Road is somewhere you'd expect to see Delia Smith. Delia Smith is not averse to baking a cake. Cake is what you have on your birthday, and traditionally you blow out the candles before cutting it with a knife. Today's Transcript:

If you remove the 'Inc' from Bizarre Inc you're left with just Bizarre, who is the big fat one in D12. D12 performed with Eminem when he played Milton Keynes a couple of years ago. Milton keynes is famous for having lots of roundabouts, something they don't have many of in America. America is where you'd find the Statue of Liberty, which is in New York. New York, New York is so good they named it twice. Twice-cooked pork is something you might find on a Chinese menu. The word 'menu' is the same in both English and French. French, first name Dawn, is the other half of comedian Lenny Henry. Lenny Henry shares one name in common with Henry VII, who famously had a beard, a bit like Jeremy Beadle, who shares the same first name as Jeremy Kyle. 'The Jeremy Kyle Show' often features DNA results. Jennifer Aniston shares the same first name as Jennifer Saunders, who's the comedy partner of Dawn French. French truckers tend to block roads and ferry ports when they're not happy. 'Happy Just To Be With You' was a hit for Michelle Gayle, who is married to Mark Bright. Bright is the opposite of dark in the world of lighting. Lighting is important in fashion. Kylie Minogue, Did It Again

Today's Transcript:

Carl Barat of The Libertines went on to form Dirty Pretty Things. 'Things Can Only Get Better' was a hit for D:Ream in 1994, and was used as a campaign song for the Labour party under Tony Blair. Tony Blair lives at number 10. 10 is 10% of 100, which is known as a century. The word 'century' shares the same beginning as 'centurion', which are those Roman soldier dudes with the brush things on their heads. Heads is one of the two options in a coin-toss, the other being tails. Tales are what Hand Christian Andersen used to tell, and he was from Denmark. Denmark is a major producer of bacon, which is popular for breakfast. Breakfast has been enjoyed in the UK since the days of Victoria and Albert. Victoria and Albert gave their name to a museum in London which currently has a Kylie Minogue exhibition, which links to Kylie Minogue and 'Did It Again'.

Flaws:

Tony Blair doesn't really live at no 10 - nobody does. Also, I'm not sure why Dave decided to designate Victoria and Albert as heralding the introduction of breakfast, as in fact eating breakfast began in the Neolithic (late Stone Age) era, when large stones were used to grind grains to make a sort of porridge.

The Orb, Little Fluffy Clouds

Today's Transcript:

Kylie is from Australia, which is the indigenous home of the kangaroo. Kangaroos are marsupials, and keep their young in the mother's pouch. 'Pouch' rhymes with 'couch', which is another name for a sofa, like the ones Martin Kemp of Spandau Ballet now advertises. Spandau Ballet had a hit with 'Gold'. Gold is found in the ground and needs to be mined, a bit like diamonds. Diamonds are measured for quality in carats. Carrots are eaten by rabbits, and help them to see in the dark. 'Dark Side Of The Moon' is a classic album by Pink Floyd, whose sample is used on the current record by Eric Prydz. Eric Prydz shares the same first name as Erik Estrada from C.H.I.P.S., who was a great motorcycle rider, although even he'd have to be careful in today's snow. The snow has fallen from the sky, or more accurately from the little fluffy clouds, which links to The Orb and 'Little Fluffy Clouds'.

Flaws:

Carat measures the size of diamonds, not the quality.

Chic, Good Times

Today's Transcript:

Clouds are what you see before rain or snow. Snow had a 1993 hit with 'Informer'. An informer is someone who supplies information to the police. The Police are rumoured to be reforming this year with Sting. A sting is what you might get from a bee. 'Be Here Now' is an album by Oasis. Oasis are fronted by Liam Gallagher, who goes out with Nicole Appleton from All Saints. Saints are the opposite of sinners. 'Sinners' rhymes with 'winners', which is what they like here at the Keepmoat Stadium, home of Doncaster Rovers, who could soon be playing against Leeds United. Leeds United are managed by Dennis Wise. 'Wise' is a word associated with owls, but not like Sheffield Wednesday, boo. Boo, first name Betty, is a pop star whose real name is Alison Clarkson. Clarkson, first name Jeremy, hosts 'Top Gear' and is from Doncaster, which is where we are today. If we had to sum up our experience in Doncaster we'd say "good times", which links to Chic and 'Good Times'.

Flaws:

Seamless today.
