All Saints, Never Ever

Today's Transcript:

Black grapes are what vineyard owners use to make red wine. 'Red Red Wine' was a hit for UB40, who are named after an unemployment benefit form. Unemployment benefit is something you might get from the post office, as are stamps. Stamps are what you stick on letters before you put them in the post. The post is delivered by the Royal Mail. Male is one of two sex options to choose from when filling in a form. Form is a word also associated with schools, which is a word also associated with fish. Fish are caught using nets, while different types of nets are used on tennis courts. Tennis courts are where you might go with balls and a racket. 'Racket' rhymes with 'jacket', which is what you'd see on the outside of a potato. Potato prints involve carving shapes into a potato and dipping it into paint. If you swap the 'P' of 'paints' for an 'S' you get 'saints', as in All Saints, which links to All Saints and 'Never Ever'.

Flaws:

Red wine is not made specifically from black grapes. The production processes of red wine are different from those of white wine, but in that the skin and seeds of the grapes remain with red wines, but are removed for white wines.

Def Leppard: Pour Some Sugar On Me

Today's Transcript:

All Saints were named after All Saints Road in Notting Hill. 'Notting Hill' was a film starring Julia Roberts. Julia Roberts' initials are JR, like JR Ewing from 'Dallas', who was played by Larry Hagman, who once appeared on 'Shooting Stars' with Vic Reeves. Vic Reeves had a hit with 'Dizzy' with the Wonderstuff. The Wonderstuff were fronted by Miles Hunt, who shares the same surname as James Hunt, the famous racing driver. A driver of a different type is what you might find in a golf bag, along with a sand wedge. A sand wedge shouldn't be mistaken for a sandwich, which was invented by the Earl of Sandwich and named after the town in Kent. 'Kent' rhymes with 'bent', as in Marcus Bent, who plays for Charlton Athletic, who are now managed by Ian Dowie, who used to be the manager of Oldham Athletic, who Michelle Marsh's boyfriend plays for. Michelle Marsh is mates with Lucy Pinder, who follows in the footsteps of other famous Page 3 girls like Jo Hicks. Jo Hicks shares the same surname as Joe Elliott, the singer with Def Leppard, which links to Def Leppard and 'Pour Some Sugar On Me'.

Heavy D & The Boyz - Now That We Found Love

Today's Transcript:

If you were trying to escape from a deaf leopard, it would be crucial that he didn't see you. 'See you' is a casual form of 'goodbye'. 'Goodbye My Lover' was a hit for James Blunt, who used to be in the army. 'In The Army Now' was a hit for Status Quo, whose main men were Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt. The name 'Parfitt' shares many of the same letters as the word 'parfait', which I think is some kind of Continental dessert. Dessert tends to be served at the same time as coffee. Coffee is made from beans, which are grown in places like Colombia. 'Colombia' was a track taken from the album 'Definitely Maybe', which was released in 1994. 1994 was also the year that the Americans hosted the World Cup. The World Cup is a time when even those who are not normally into football rediscover their love for the game, which they may have lost. If you were discussing this with someone who had also found a lost love you might use the phrase "now that we found love", which links to Heavy D & The Boyz and 'Now That We Found Love'.

Fatboy Slim: Rockafeller Skank

Today's Transcript:

Heavy is a word associated with weight, which is measured with the use of scales. Scales, first name John, used to play for Wimbledon. Wimbledon is where The Wombles are from. One of the best known Wombles is Uncle Bulgaria. Bulgaria is a country that has a capital called Sofia. Sophia Loren is an actress who was big at the same sort of time as Richard Burton. 'Burton' rhymes with 'curtain', and curtains are what you draw before you go to bed. The German word for 'bed' is 'bet', while the word for table is 'tisch', which sounds a bit like 'atishoo', which is the noise you make when you sneeze. Sneezing is what you do when you've got a cold. Cold is the opposite of hot, which is what it's like in a kicthen. A kitchen is where you'd expect to find the cook. Cook, first name Norman is the real name of Fatboy Slim, which links to Fatboy Slim and 'Right Here, Right Now'.

Chris: Is it?
Dave: Yes. (pause) Do you not have that?
Chris: Are you sure...you sure it's 'Right Here, Right Now'?
Dave: Is it another hit by Fatboy Slim? 'Rockafeller Skank', maybe?
Chris: Well...yeah, let's play that one.
Dave: That'll do!
Chris: Let's play 'Rockafeller Skank', shall we?
Dave: Let's do that.
Chris: Wicked.
Dave: I prefer that to 'Right Here, Right Now', anyway.
Chris: Go!

Flaws:

No problems, apart from the obvious issue with the track itself.

Aerosmith: Love In An Elevator

Today's Transcript:

Fatboy Slim is married to Zoe Ball, who used to do 'Live And Kicking' with Jamie Theakston. Jamie Theakston supports Brighton & Hove Albion, along with Des Lynam. Des Lynam now presents 'Countdown' along with Carol Vorderman. Carol Vorderman is good at maths and sudoku and stuff. Sudoku was invented in Japan, along with karaoke. Karaoke is where drunken amateurs sing along to a backing track. A track of a different type is what trains run on. 'Run' was a record by Snow Patrol. Excess snowfall is sometimes called a blizzard. If you remove the 'B' from 'blizzard' you get 'lizard', which is a scaly animal with a long tongue. The tongue is the part of the body that houses all your taste sensors, like sweet and sour. Sweet and sour is what you might order at the Chinese. There are only a couple of Chinese footballers in the Premiership, including Li Tie. Li Tie shares the same initials as Liv Tyler. Liv Tyler is the daughter of Steven Tyler of Aerosmith , which links to Aerosmith and 'Love In An Elevator'.

Flaws:

Removing the 'B' from 'blizzard' doesn't really make 'lizard'. Additionally, there were some quibbles regarding the invention of Sudoku; in fact puzzles resembling modern Sudoku were first seen in French newspapers in the late 1800s, but the modern Sudoku was most likely designed anonymously by Howard Garns from Indiana, and first published in 1979 by Dell Magazines as 'Number Place'.

Dodgy: Staying Out For The Summer

Today's Transcript:

An elevator is what the Americans call a lift. 'Lifted' was a hit for the Lighthouse Family. A lighthouse is an important device for keeping ships away from rocks. 'Rocks' was a hit for Primal Scream, who are fronted by Bobby Gillespie, who used to be in the Jesus & Mary Chain. 'Chain Reaction' was a hit for Diana Ross, who's mates with Michael Jackson, whose hits include 'Black Or White'. A black and white TV licence is cheaper than colour. Color Me Badd were responsible for the dreadful 'I Wanna Sex You Up'. Up is the opposite of down, as in 'Watership Down', which featured a lot of rabbits. 'White rabbit' is what you're supposed to say for good luck on the first of the month. If you remove the middle letter of 'month' you're left with 'moth', which like to eat clothes. Clothes are what you put in the washing machine, which has several different cycle settings, including D. When you think of the letter D in the context of great bands you think of Dodgy, which links to Dodgy and 'Staying Out For The Summer'.

Flaws:

A slightly dubious end to the link, but no quibbles.

Mantronix featuring Wondress, Got To Have Your Love

Today's Transcript:

Dodgy were from Birmingham, which is also where Ozzy Osbourne is from. Ozzy Osbourne is married to Sharon, who's one of the judges on 'The X-Factor', along with Simon Cowell, who also does 'American Idol' with Paula Abdul. Paula Abdul had a hit with 'Straight Up', which is how you might describe the launch of a rocket. Rocket is also a type of green leaf found in salad. If you rearrange the letters in the word 'salad' and replace one of the 'A's with an 'E' you get 'Slade', who launched the career of Noddy Holder, who now advertises nuts. Nuts is how the traffic in Germany was described the other day. Day, first name Inaya, had a hit with 'Nasty Girl'. A girl is the female equivalent of a boy. 'Boy' was the title of an album by U2, who are probably the favourite band ever of Dominic Byrne. Dominic is currently in London, along with JK & Joel. JK goes out with Suzanne Shaw from Hear'say. The people who didn't get into Hear'say went on to form Liberty X, who had a hit with a cover of 'Got To Have Your Love', which links to Mantronix and 'Got To Have Your Love'.

Flaws:

Dodgy were in fact from Redditch and Bromsgrove.

Beastie Boys: (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)

Today's Transcript:

'Got To Have Your Love' reached number 4 in the year 1990. If you add up all the numbers in 1990 you get 19, which was a hit for Paul Hardcastle, who also wrote the theme for 'Holiday'. A holiday is what we're not on here in Germany, in fact yesterday it was too cold to go swimming. Swimming is a sport that you'd associate with Sharron Davies. Sharron Davies used to present 'The Big Breakfast', along with Mark Little, who played Joe Mangel in 'Neighbours'. Neighbours is a term for people who live in your street. 'Street Spirit' was a record by Radiohead, who are fronted by Thom Yorke. York is home to the Yorvic Viking Museum. Vikings came from Scandinavia, a bit like Abba. Abba are the sort of band you might hear at a wedding or a birthday party. Tomorrow it's Carrie's birthday so we'll be fighting for our right to party, which links to The Beastie Boys and '(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)'.

U2: Pride (In The Name Of Love)

Today's Transcript:

The Beastie Boys are from New York, which is where you'd find the Statue of Liberty. Liberty X are made up of the people who didn't make Hear'say. Ex-Hear'say member Kym Marsh is married to ex-Eastender Jack Ryder, who shares the same surname as Shaun Ryder who was in the Happy Mondays. A happy Monday is what many England fans will be having today after seeing their team make the quarter-finals, where they'll face Portugal on Saturday. Saturday, in terms of days of the week, is number six. Six times three is 18, which is how old you need to be in the UK to buy a beer. Beer is made from hops, while hops of a different type are what you'd associate with rabbits. Rabbits have big ears, as does Gary Lineker, who likes crisps. Crisps are made from potatoes, which grow in the ground. 'Ground Force' once did a makeover for Nelson Mandela in South Africa. South Africa is somewhere you'd expect to find a lot of lions. A collective of lions is known as a pride, which links to U2 and 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)'.

Flaws:

Chappers questioned Dave's assertion that Saturday is the sixth day of the week, but he remained convinced that he was right, and for what it's worth I agree with him on this one.

Kylie Minogue: Put Yourself In My Place

Today's Transcript:

'Pride (In The Name Of Love)' was taken from the album 'The Unforgettable Fire'. Fire can be extinguished using foam or sand. Sand is what you find lots of in the Sahara desert, which you have to cross if you're taking part in the Dakar rally. Dakar is the capital of Senegal, which is where Patrick Viera was born. 'Born Free' was set in Africa, as was 'Zulu', which starred Michael Caine, who was also in 'The Weatherman' with Nicolas Cage. A cage is where you keep domestic birds such as a budgie or parrot. Parrott, first name John, is a snooker player and supporter of Everton football club. Everton's Tim Kale has been playing for Australia who are now out of the World Cup. I would imagine that all Australians are gutted and to imagine how they feel we'd have to put ourselves in their place, which links to Kylie Minogue and 'Put Yourself In My Place'.

Flaws:

Carrie pointed out that Kylie is apparently supporting France as her boyfriend Olivier Martinez is French, but Dave refused to accept this as an error.

Foo Fighters: Breakout

Today's Transcript:

If you add an 'I' to 'place' you get 'plaice', which is a type of fish. Fish was the lead singer of Marillion, who had a hit with 'Kayleigh' in 1985. 1985 was the year that Live Aid happened, which was the brainchild of Bob Geldof, who used to be the singer of the Boomtown Rats. Rats are what you'd expect to find in a sewer. 'Sewer' sounds a bit like 'sour', as in sweet and sour, which is what you might order in a Chinese. Chinese food is traditionally eaten with chopsticks, while Styx were a band named after the river Styx, in the Middle East somewhere. In the Middle East you'd need to wear a lot of suncream. Cream is also what you put on strawberries, which grow in the ground. 'Ground' rhymes with 'mound', which is a term for what is at Wimbledon called Henman Hill. Hill, first name Graham, used to drive a racecar. The word 'racecar' is a pallindrome, like 'bob'. If you swap the first and last letters of the word 'bob' for an 'F' and an 'O' you get 'foo', which links to The Foo Fighters and 'Breakout'.

Flaws:

The Styx is not a river in the Middle East; it's a river in Greek mythology that formed the boundary between Earth and the Underworld.

Jesus Jones: International Bright Young Thing

Today's Transcript:

Breakout is what you might try to do if you were in prison. In prison the windows have bars, while bars are also what you might make gold into. 'Gold' was a big hit for Spandau Ballet, who were fronted by Tony Hadley. Tony Hadley shares the same first name as Tony Doughty, who used to present 'Top Of The Pops', which is now sadly being axed. Axed is also what might happen to an oak tree if it was being cut down by a lumberjack. If you remove the 'jack' from 'lumberjack' you get 'lumber', which is a region of the lower back. 'Back In The USSR' was a hit for The Beatles. Beetles are a bit like *, which are apparently one of the only things that would survive a nuclear apocalypse, although how would you know? 'How Will I Know' was a hit for Whitney Houston. Houston is the city where Destiny's Child are from. Destiny's Child have no doubt played on the same bill as Craig David. Craig David is from Southampton, as is Theo Walcott. Theo Walcott is undoubtedly an international bright young thing, which links to Jesus Jones and 'International Bright Young Thing'.

Flaws:

'Lumber' is not a region of the lower back, that's lumbar. Also, the way we know that * would be likely to survive a nuclear holocaust is that it has been proven that they have a much higher radiation resistance than vertebrates, with the lethal dose perhaps 6 to 15 times that for humans.

NWA: Express Yourself

Today's Transcript:

Jesus' Jones other big hit was entitled 'Real, Real, Real'. Real is the opposite of fake in the world of cosmetic surgery, a bit like that Leah off 'Big Brother' who's apparently got the biggest boobs in Britain at size M, which must stand for 'massive mammaries'. 'Mammaries' is almost the same as 'memories', which was a hit for Elaine Paige, who teamed up with Barbara Dickson on 'I Know Him So Well'. A well is a good thing to build in places like Africa, for people who don't have running water and stuff. Water is something you can carry in a bucket, while a bucket and spade is something you might take to the beach. 'The Beach' was a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and a book written by Alex Garland. Alex Garland shares the same first name as Alex Parkes, who won 'Fame Academy' a couple of years ago, which was hosted by Patrick Kielty. Patrick Kielty's new job sees him in Fiji for two months. It was less than two months that Wayne Rooney spent injured after breaking his metatarsal against Chelsea, and he now seems capable of leading England to a win that will see the team truly express themselves, which links to NWA and 'Express Yourself'.

Today's Transcript:

'Express' is a word also associated with trains. 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' was a film starring Steve Martin, who also starred in 'The Man With Two Brains'. If you swap the 'R' in 'brains' for an 'E' and lose the 'I' you get 'beans, which can make you trump. Trump, first name Donald, has his own building called Trump Towers in New York. New York is so good they named it twice. 'Twice' rhymes with 'mice', which can be caught using cheese. Cheese can give you weird dreams if you eat it before going to bed. 'Dreams' was a hit for Gabrielle, who used to wear an eyepatch, a bit like a pirate. 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' is a film starring Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp is married to Vanessa Paradis, who is from France, who England would have played next if they'd beaten the Portugese. Sadly they didn't, which is why they're now ready to come home, which links to James and 'Come Home'.

Flaws:

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis aren't actually married. Additionally, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that cheese is particularly effective at causing dreams, good or bad.

Come home is what we've all done, cos today we're back from Germany. Germany tonight have a tough World Cup semi-final match against Italy. Italy is where they eat a lot of pizza and pasta. Pasta is what long-distance runners eat the night before a big race because it's full of carbs. 'Carbs' rhymes with 'barbs', which is a term for the spiky bits on a barbed-wire fence. Femcing is a sport that Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden likes to do. Bruce Dickinson is also a pilot. If you swap the 'O' in 'pilot' for a 'U' and reverse the letters you get 'tulip', which is a flower found in the Netherlands. The people of the Netherlands are called Dutch. Deee-Lite: Groove Is In The Heart

Today's Transcript:

Another Salvador is Salvador Dali, who is a famous painter like Rembrandt. The Rembrandts' track 'I'll Be There For You' was the theme to 'Friends'. 'Friends' starred Courteney Cox, who's married to David Arquette, who's the brother of Patricia Arquette, who was in 'True Romance' with Christian Slater, who's now doing theatre in London. 'London Calling' was a hit for The Clash. 'Clash' rhymes with 'Slash', who was in Guns N' Roses with Axl Rose, who's been seen on dates recently with Sophie Anderton, who was in 'Love Island', which was presented by Fearne Cotton. Cotton is made by worms. Worms tend to be more prevalent when there's been a rainstorm, and in that respect share something in common with snails. Snails are a popular food in France, who we'll all be supporting tonight, and hopefully the match will fill us all with delight, which links to Deee-Lite and 'Groove Is In The Heart'.

The Primitives: Crash

Today's Transcript:

Delight happened last night as we saw the game end in tears for Ronaldo, which was brilliant. Brilliant is a word you often see written on tins of paint, as in matt and gloss. Matt and gloss is only one letter away from Matt Goss, who was in Bros, who used to wear beer bottle tops on their boots. Boots are what you need to wear if you're horse-riding, like Josie Darby. Derby County are nicknamed the Rams. 'Rams' rhymes with 'hams', which are what you might see hanging up in a butchers'. Ricky Butcher used to be in 'Eastenders', which is set in Albert Square. All the angles of a square add up to 360 degrees. Degrees are also used to measure temperatures, such as hot and cold. 'Cold Mountain' is a film starring Jude Law. Utah Saints: Something Good

Today's Transcript:

The Primitives were formed in Coventry, as were The Specials, and it's also where Lady Godiva rode naked on the back of a horse. Horse tail hair is used to make bows for violins and cellos. Cellos are really big and can't be carried as hand luggage, unlike a flute. The notes on a flute are achieved by moving the fingers and lips. 'Lips' rhymes with 'pips', which are what you might find in a lemon. 'Lemon' was a hit for U2 during their slightly weird period. A period is what happens to girls once a month, and is when they act really grumpy. Grumpy was the name of one of the Seven Dwarves. The word 'dwarves' shares many of the same letters as 'scarves', which are what you might see people wearing at a football match. 'Match' rhymes with 'snatch', which is what a mugger might try to do to your wallet. If you swap the first letter of 'wallet' for a 'P' you get 'pallet', which is what a painter might have if they were painting in the park. The park is where you'd see a lot of trees and bushes. Bush, first name Kate, is the artist who was sampled by Utah Saints on their hit 'Something Good', which links to Utah Saints and 'Something Good'.

Flaws:

Swapping the first letter of 'wallet' to a 'P' makes 'pallet', which is a wooden structure used for transporting heavy goods, and not what a painter might use at all - that's a palette.

Today's Transcript:

Utah is a state of America, along with places like Kentucky and Texas. Texas is also the name of a band whose lead singer is called Sharleen. Charlene was the name of the 'Neighbours' character played by Kylie Minogue. Kylie Minogue has just sold out her forthcoming world tour. 'Tour' rhymes with 'pour', which is what you do with things like orange juice and tea at breakfast time. Breakfast is apparently the most important meal of the day. Day, first name Inia, had a hit with 'Nasty Girl'. 'Nasty' was a hit for Janet Jackson. Janet Jackson shares the same first name as Janet Street-Porter, who's got big teeth, a bit like Cilla Black. Cilla Black is mates with Dale Winton, who you'd associate with releasing the balls on a Saturday night. 'Night' rhymes with 'light', which is what you might ask for if you wanted to borrow a lighter or a match. It only takes one match to burn a thousand trees, which links to Stereophonics and 'A Thousand Trees'.

Groove Armada: At The River

Today's Transcript:

A thousand trees would probably be referred to as a small wood. Wood is a good material for making furniture out of, and in the olden days, boats. Before the invention of the engine, boats were powered by sails. Sales are what people queue up for in January. January is month number one. The number one is what you'd be left with if you subtracted 16 from 17. 17 is the legal age in the UK at which you can learn to drive. 'Drive' was a hit for The Cars. Cars are a major contributor to global warming, which results in the production of greenhouse gases. Greenhouses are not a good idea next to a cricket pitch. Pitch is a word associated with singing. Singing is what birds do. Birds is a term encompassing everything from eagles to ducks, which you'd see at the river, which links to Groove Armada and 'At The River'.

Armada in the shipping sense is something you'd associate with the Spanish. The Spanish are major producers of omelettes. Omelettes are made using eggs, which are hatched from hens. Athlete is the occupation of Zola Budd. Zola Budd shares one name in common with Gianfranco Zola, who used to play for Chelsea, who've just sold Damien Duff to Newcastle. Newcastle is the city that's home to Ant McPartlin, who got married last weekend. 'The Weekend' was a hit for Michael Grey. Grey, first name Elizabeth, was in 'Dirty Dancing' with Patrick Swayze. Swayze begins with the letter 'S', as does 'soil'. Soil is what you'd see crops growing in on a farm, which links to The Farm and 'Groovy Train'.

Wall Street is in the financial district of New York, which is where Salt n Pepa are from. Salt and pepper are condiments. The word 'condiments' sounds a lot like 'compliments', as in 'Compliments On Your Kiss', which was a hit for Red Dragon with Bryan and Tony Gould. Gold is a precious metal, along with silver. 'Silver' is an anagram of 'sliver', which is a film starring Sharon Stone. The word 'stone' shares more than half of its letters with the word 'doves'. Guests are the people you'd invite to a wedding, which traditionally involves a bride and groom. Groom is what you might do to horses, and might involve a brush. Brush, first name Basil, is a famous fox. Fox, first name Sam, was the nation's favourite Page 3 girl in the mid-eighties. The mid-eighties was when the film 'The Breakfast Club' was released, the soundtrack of which featured Simple Minds, which links to Simple Minds and 'Don't You (Forget About Me)'.

Flaws:

Apparently horses are not groomed with a brush, but a special comb called a curry-comb.

Basement Jaxx: Rendez-Vu

Today's Transcript:

Simple Minds are fronted by Jim Kerr, who shares a very similar name with Jim Corr, who's Irish. Irish stew is traditionally made using lamb. Lamb, first name Allan, is a famous cricketer from yesteryear and a big mate of Ian Botham. Ian Botham has done lots of walking for charity, and I think has walked with elephants over the Alps, like Hannibal. Hannibal is also a character from 'The A-Team'. The A-Team lived in the Los Angeles underground. 'Underground' was a hit for Ben Folds Five. Five is the amount of digits that you have on your hand. Hands is the unit of measurement for horses. Horses are associated with the production of glue. Glue is what you'd use to fix insulating foam to a wall if you were insulating your basement. When you think of the word 'basement' in the context of successful dance acts you think of Basement Jaxx, which links to Basement Jaxx and 'Rendez-Vu'.

Flaws:

I'm pretty sure that the best way of attaching foam insulation to a wall is to use pieces of timber drilled into the wall to act as a batten, and that glue should only be used as a temporary measure. But then I'm only a girl, so maybe Dave knows best...
