Hi Aled,

I am a Big Take That Fan and there is an on-going, un-confirmed discussion on the Take That Website ( http://www.take-that.co.uk/discussion/s ... hp?t=23606 ) that Take That might soon be on the Chris Moyles show is this true? If it is can you let us know when it is liely to be?

Lots of love

Hi again Aled - why has there been such an explosion in the number of guests on the show? It's almost every day at the moment, it never used to be anything like so many. Occasionally they are a good listen (David Beckham for instance), but often they are really not the best bits of the show by a long way - I just wondered if there was a reason?

Aled.
How can I plead to Chris to say yes to a book signing in Yeovil?

He doesn't want Gordon Ramsey and Leslie Grantham to steal his thunder does he?

Well there's 2 reasons...

1) Rachel loves having guests on

2) This is official launching stuff for Christmas time so everyone wants to plug something and right now we have quite a buzz about our show so everyone wants to come on ours!

I know, I could say it was tongue-in-cheek, but it was probably more grabbing-at-straws.

I'll have to ask you when you write a book

Johnny 1989 wrote:Back on the playlist thing.....

Aled does Chris wish he could play a few more songs from yesteryear?

Songs from about 5-10 years ago, like he used to on his afternoon show (I used to remember back in the early days of his afternoon show he used to play songs from 5 year previous), so wondered that if he didn't have to keep to the playlist would he play more songs from the past.

Or would we be getting into dangerous territory here letting Moyles play what he wants & he would start playing Simple Minds and Hue & Cry for example?

I don't think Chris would want to play songs from 5-10 years ago as that would be 2001 or earlier. maybe 15-20 years? Who knows? But then that wouldn't be Radio 1 would it?

Kwyjibo wrote:Also on the playlist subject........
who sits around the table to choose what is or isn't on the playlists? Producers, D.J's? or is there no such table?

There IS a table.

There are around 10 of us. There's the music team (made up of 4 people) then other people around the station can apply to be on the team. Producers, Exec Producers, Assistant Producers etc. We each have a specialist section to focus on but we all have an opinion on the songs that go on (or don't go on). My specialist section is teen pop.

Perfect :)

Andy B wrote:"Who decides which tracks are playlisted?
The new playlist is compiled at a meeting chaired by the Head of Music each Thursday and is published online at 4.30pm. Producers from all the daytime shows attend, together with representatives from specialist shows; however everyone from the Controller to the work-experience person can, and frequently does voice their opinion!"

It's out of date

See answer above, also, it's on a Wednesday now.

boboff wrote:Aled, you mention that the station is targeted at those under 25, being ever so slightly older than that, similar in age to the DJ'd in fact, am I wrong to enjoy the show, and frankly should I grow up and stop living in the past ?
Unfortunately when I was under 25 Radio 1 was frankly rubbish ! ( playing minority stuff during the middle of the day ), ok so it was 10 years ago, so Chris wasn't on the station, so there you go, I am 35, put an old man minds at ease here.

What are the demographics of the audience, and how have the changed over the last ten years, which shows have seen the demographic spread in the most facinating way, and how does the BBC envisage broadening or narrowing its appeal to ensure that target programming is possible ?

No, please don't send me to Radio 2 !

Every BBC radio station has a remit. We need that in order to justify our licence fee. Radio 1's remit is to target 15-30 year olds. That isn't to say that we ban you if you're older, we need to have a focus which is that but we're fully aware that younger people listen as to older people.

Demographics have changed. Radio 1 focused very heavily on the teen male at one point to ensure we hit the middle of our remit. We did it brilliantly and the percentage of our remit age-group that listened to us was amazingly high - but that was at the expense of the age groups younger and older that then resulted in the figures declining.

Since then we've warmed up our output moved presenters around and broadened our appeal hence our figures have gone back up.
