With the old clipper on this site there used to be full shows stored on there for editing purposes. I'm not sure if they still go on there but maybe there's a way of downloading them through there?

Maybe, although I'm not sure where I would go on the site to find out. For now I'll record Moyles from cable TV every morning (like I am right now), and I'll keep trying Radio Downloader and GetiPlayer every day too. I'm not sure how long it'll take me to rip the audio of the whole show from a DVD-RW though.

There is another possibility, based on your offer of uploading the show each day for me. Assuming you do download the show every day, maybe we could share a DropBox folder, and you could copy each day's show into that folder, and as long as your computer was on and connected to the internet, then the file would upload by itself (without either of us having to mess around with MediaFire or whatever), and each show would automatically delete itself from your DropBox as soon as I downloaded it.

Hopefully it won't come to that though, let's see if my cable-TV recording works and/or if Radio Downloader or GetiPlayer start working.

I used to do a similar thing before the iPlayer streams were decent quality -- recording Freeview to a DVD-RW and ripping it.

The ripping didn't take long, but it was still more of a pain than ripping from iPlayer, and I think the DVD recorder was recoding the audio, which I wasn't too keen on, and the bitrate wasn't great, given the codec.
If your cable box is using decent bitrate audio you may get better audio than from iPlayer.

If you're really desperate, you can FTP the show from my NAS, but I'd have to set that up.

Ok, how in the bloody hell do you use this software? Is it meant to be in cmd mode as that is what I am in at the moment. I need to download yesterday's show and today's show.

Assuming you're running Windows.

* If you have already installed get_iplayer, uninstall it.

* Install this: http://www.infradead.org/get_iplayer_wi ... latest.exe

* Download this (my working get_iplayer folder): http://www.mediafire.com/?m040fc68k96l78a

* Unzip it.

* Copy the files in the unzipped folder in to the same location as the existing files that are in your existing folder (usually within the "get_iplayer" folder in "Program Files").

* Run Web PVR Manager.

I've ripped today's show from my DVD-RW anyway. One thing I will say - it's very loud. Which makes sense, because whenever I've listened to radio through my digital TV, it always has been very loud on all stations. Looking at the waveform, it looks like it's peaking almost all the time (although Sound Forge says it never goes above 0dB, but then that could be Sound Forge just limiting it automatically). As for the sound, it sounds fine to me. Doesn't sound distorted or anything, even when it appears to be peaking.

So I don't know really. I could edit and upload this and see what people think. Or I could spend hours trying to get GIP or RD working, probably with no success (not very keen on that idea - I might be prepared to try once a week to get one of them working). Or one of you could upload today's show for me (and every day's show).

I could really do with a digital radio, which would enable me to record the output to WAV or MP3, kind of like you used to be able to do with cassette radios. EDIT: Apparently they are available. But I can't afford £100+ right now.

It works fine for me, for what that's worth.

Download this: http://www.infradead.org/get_iplayer_wi ... latest.exe
Run 'pvr_manager.cmd'
In the search box type 'moyles.*'
Check the 'BBC Radio' checkbox
Click the 'Record' link next the the item you want to save
A new window will be spawned which says:
>Recording The Following Programmes
>The Chris Moyles Show - Wednesday - the Musical Tastes game with Huw Stephens (b012f5m9)

And then the output of the get_iplayer script. It should look something like this:

If you use my version, it uses a much more recent version of get_iplayer which does some clever scanning and fixing of the stream to remux it from flv to aac to m4a (without recoding anything) and tags it up nicely. You end up with a nice compliant m4a which will play in basically any app (VLC, MPC, WMP, iPod, iTunes).

ok thanks but is there any way to just download the one program rather having to download the previous 5 since I only require yesterday and today's shows pretty much and the way you showed makes it that you have to download the 5 current shows on iplayer. i don't think the record works since it just has certain errors and just keeps retrying over and over again.

Really annoyed that this had to happen all of a sudden especially with one of my favourite features returning this week in Musical Tastes.

Yes, you hit "Record" :D

If it doesn't work, use my cap for yesterday's show that I posted. I'm also posting today's show (due to complete in a few mins).

Record doesn't work. thanks for the help but I think I will just stick to downloading ian's edited versions etc until that Radio downloader problem is fixed if it does that is. get_iplayer is just too annoying for me to use and rather download mp3 rather than m4a since I don't use an ipod and have a pretty old creative zen mp3 player that I use to listen to it live as well etc.

If anyone is prepared to upload tomorrow's show as well, then please can you let me know if advance, because then I won't bother to record the show from my cable TV, because it is a pain setting the DVD recorder, then finalising the disc, then ripping the DVD. Meanwhile I'm uploading a bit of each version of today's show to compare.

Also, if you get errors, delete the partial download. You're more likely to be able to get it to work on a retry if you do that.
