 | Feeder Come Back Around - The bass player from Feeder is called Taka and is from Japan - Japan is the country that invented sushi - Sushi’s eaten raw and “Raw Like Sushi” was the title of an album by Neneh Cherry - Neneh Cherry originally did “7 Seconds” with Youssou N'Dour, although he did it this year at Live 8 with Dido - Dido has a brother called Rolo, who’s sort of in Faithless with Maxi Jazz and Sister Bliss, who along with the rest of Faithless were at my 30th birthday party - Birthday parties only happen once a year, a bit like Easter and Bonfire Night - Bonfire Night is a celebration of the death of Guy Fawkes, who I think tried to blow up the Houses Of Parliament - The “H” from Houses and the “P” from Parliament provide the “H” and the “P” in HP Sauce, which is brown - “Brown Girl In The Ring” was a big hit for Boney M - If you were to allocate a number to every letter of the alphabet using the order in which they appear, with A being number 1 and Z being number 26, then the M (as in Boney M) would be number 13 - 13 is a prime number, a bit like 11 and 7 - 7 is the number of hills that surround the city of Edinburgh - and if you were into running or fell walking, and wanted to run towards the hills, you’d have to quite literally “Run To The Hills” - Which links us to Iron Maiden and Run To The Hills

Its our little secret... - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the April 82 album “The Number Of The Beast”, and the first single to feature singer-come-pilot-come 6Music presenter Bruce Dickinson on vocals. - SEAMLESS?: - Yes, but I have one query: *Does Reggie Yates actually present TOTP anymore? I thought he’d been booted off? Anyone? |
TRACK INFO: - Released August 1999 - Reached number 9 and spent 7 weeks on the countdown. - MC FACT ATTACK: - This was the second top ten Chemical Brothers hit featuring the vocals of Noel Gallagher, the first being October 96’s “Setting Sun” (which got to number one!). | Zoe Sunshine On A Rainy Day - Sunshine on a rainy day is what normally results in the weather phenomenon that we call a “rainbow” - Rainbow had a top six hit in 1979 with “Since You've Been Gone” - “Gone With The Wind” is a classic movie starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable - A gable is what you might find on the roof - “Roof” shares many of the same letters as the word “hoof”, which is like the animal word equivalent of a foot - A foot is a unit of imperial measurement, as is a yard - A yard is also what the Americans have outside their house - “House Of Love” was a 1992 hit for East 17 - East 17 is the postcode for Walthamstow, which is where Brian Harvey is from - Brian Harvey accidentally ran over himself with his own car - If you add an additional R onto the end of car you get “carr”, as in the surname of Stephen Carr, who used to play for Spurs but is now at Newcastle - Newcastle is the location of the forthcoming Great North Run - “Run To The Hills” was a big hit for Iron Maiden - and Iron Maiden are headlining this years Reading & Leeds festivals (MC edit - Which I’m going to! But definitely not to see them..), as are the Pixies and the Foo Fighters - Which links us to the mighty Foo Fighters and Everlong
- SEAMLESS?: - In a word, no: *Gables are joined to the roof and wall, so more in the brickline of the house than actually on the roof itself. *Also, not all Americans have yards outside their houses - especially if they live in apartments. |
TRACK INFO: - Released August 1997 - Peaked at number 18 in the Top 40, spending 3 weeks on the chart.. - MC FACT ATTACK: - There are hundreds of different interpretations of the lyrics of Everlong, e.g it’s about heroin, rough sex, Dave Grohl’s ex wife... and Kurt and Courtney. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the Foos’ top 3 second album “The Colour And The Shape”, released in May 97. Other tracks include Monkey Wrench and My Hero.

 | Placebo Nancy Boy - A placebo’s basically a substance that contains no medicinal qualities, but is given to someone to reassure them and pyschologically help them to get well and feel better - “Better Days” was a 1992 hit for Bruce Springsteen - Bruce Springsteen once invited Courteney Cox up on stage, and she danced with him in one of his videos when she was very young - Young MC provided the Y entry for Colin and Edith’s A-Z compilation tape yesterday, with the seldom heard genius track that is “I Know” - Phonetically “know” is the opposite of “yes” - Yes had a 1983 hit with “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”, while Heart on the other hand had their biggest hit in 1987 with “Alone” - If you add a T and an H to the middle of alone you get “Athlone”, which is a town in the Republic Of Ireland - The Republic Of Ireland is where The Corrs and The Cranberries are from, and also where Joe Elliott from Def Leppard now lives - Def Leppard are originally from Sheffield, as are The Human League, Pulp, Babybird and Heaven 17 - Heaven 17 are a good example of an act who re released the same track more than once, in their case it was “Temptation” - and this is exactly what Zoe did, with her track “Sunshine On A Rainy Day”, which was first released in 1990 but then re released a year later when it smashed into the charts at number four - Which links us to Zoe and Sunshine On A Rainy Day
- SEAMLESS?: - Ha. Rubbish, failed link today (graded D- by Chris): *Firstly there was some debate over the definition of a placebo and the birthplace of The Corrs. *The Young MC track was “Know How”, not “I Know” (a De La Soul track) which subsequently buggers up the next connection and therefore the entire link. *Dave’s claim that Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott lives in Ireland was off the back of no evidence whatsoever, just the fact he used to live there years ago. He said it was “hunch” he still did. *If you add a T and an H to the middle of Alone you actually get “Altohne” not “Athlone”. Dave covered up by claiming the middle of a word was anything between the first and last letter. Chris quite rightly pointed out his blatant stupidity with his example the word “yesterday”, and the fact that according to Daves rules, the first “E” in it is therefore in the middle of the word. Total rollocks. *Also, the Zoe and Heaven 17 tracks were remixed, not re released in their original state as such. Dave called that “musicologist tittle tattle”. |
TRACK INFO: - Remix Released August 1991 - Long runner, with eleven weeks on the chart in total - peaking at number 4, as stated in the link. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Zoe’s surname was “Pollock”. Fact. - ALBUM DETAILS: - You can get it on the dance compilation “Back To Love Volume 1” - Full tracklisting on Amazon here.

 | Vengaboys We’re Going To Ibiza! - Ibiza is where Radio 1 held a 12 hour party at Space on Saturday night - “Saturday Night” was the title of a 1994 record for Whigfield - Whigfield is from Denmark - Denmark play England in a friendly on Wednesday night - If you add a K to the front of night you get “knight”, as in Knightrider starring David Hasselhoff, or Leon Knight who scored for Brighton in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Crewe Alexandra - If you add an I to Alexandra you get “Alexandria”, which is the capital of Egypt - Egypt is where you go to see the pyramids - and “pyramids” is also a word associated with tea bags - Tea bags are normally kept in the kitchen - The kitchen is also where you’d expect to find a fridge - A fridge keeps things cool and stops them from melting, which is why it’s often a good place to keep chocolate - Some of the best chocolate in the world comes from Belgium - The capital of Belgium is Brussels - and Brussels is the birthplace of singer and guitarist Mr Brian Molko from the band Placebo - Which links us to Placebo and Nancy Boy
- SEAMLESS?: - Eugene and the text regulars helped to pick holes in the Tedious Link: *The capital of Egypt is Cairo, not Alexandria. Sounds obvious I know but Dave does do his best to f*ck things up doesn’t he. |
TRACK INFO: - Released February 1997 - Placebo’s second Top 40 hit went top four, spending six weeks on the chart. - MC FACT ATTACK: - A placebo is a substance which has no effect on the body, yet looks identical to the experimental drug being investigated. Or something. I don’t actually care. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From Placebo’s June 96 self titled debut album “Placebo”, which reached number five on the album charts upon re entry (good mornin’) in February 97. Wow.

 | Stardust Music Sounds Better With You - Stardust first name Alvin is somebody you’d associate with road safety - Road safety is important, and you should always follow the green cross code - Codes and colours are often used in safety stuff, with code red meaning “danger” - Danger Zone was a hit for Kenny Loggins - Log ins are what computer support staff give you, in order for you to get onto your computer - The computer was invented by Charles Babbage - “Babbage” shares many of the same letters as “cabbage”, which is something that Rachel probably grows on her windowsill - The plural of sill is sills, which are also found on cars and can be vunerable to rust - Rust is basically just iron oxide - Oxide is the musical partner of Neutrino, as in Oxide & Neutrino, who I think were also part of the So Solid Crew - Crew are required on a boat - A boat is a giod way of getting to an island, such as Ibiza - and Ibiza is a great place to go on holiday, especially if you like dancing and Radio 1 - and this weekend Radio 1 is celebrating ten years of going to Ibiza as you’ve probably heard - So to comemerate this monumental anniversary, it seems appropriate to play a record that is synomonous with the whole vibe of the White Isle - Which links us predictably to the Vengaboys and We're Going To Ibiza!
- SEAMLESS?: - Nearly: *Danger Zone wasn’t really a hit for Kenny Loggins - it got to number 45 in the UK Chart. |
TRACK INFO: - Released September 1999 - Amazingly The Vengaboys second number one single, which spent 12 weeks on the chart. - MC FACT ATTACK: - The Vengaboys were the first Netherlands based act to score six successive top five singles in the UK. What with all that competition eh.. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From April 99’s “The Party Album!”, which went to number six in the album charts and criminally spent another 48 weeks on there. *spits*.

 | James Brown Living In America - Living in America is what Anthony Hopkins is now doing - Anthony Hopkins starred as Hannibal Lecter in “Silence Of The Lambs” - “Lambs” is the term for a baby sheep, and it’s sheep and lambs that produce wool - Wool is a warm substance which is good for making jumpers and scarves - Scarves are worn around the neck - The neck of an animal can vary greatly in size, with monkeys and mice having really little necks, and then things like swans and giraffes having really long necks - “Necks” rhymes with “keks”, which is a slang word for trousers or pants - Pants is what an exhausted dog might do after a really long walk on a really hot day - Day, first name Inaya, is responsible for the current camp dance smash “Nasty Girls”, which samples a Prince track, which featured on the soundtrack to the movie “Beverly Hills Cop”, starring Eddie Murphy - Eddie Murphy shares the same surname as Roisin Murphy from Moloko - Moloko’s “Sing It Back” is regarded as being a big Ibiza record apparently - and when you think of big Ibiza records that have been really big in Ibiza, over the last ten years of Radio 1’s coverage of Ibiza , you think of Stardust and Music Sounds Better With You - Which links us predictably to Stardust and Music Sounds Better With You
- SEAMLESS?: - Ha. No, although Dave said otherwise and went straight on to the ramble: *“Lambs” is not the term for a baby sheep, thats’ “lamb”. *Inaya Day isn’t responsible for current camp dance smash “Nasty Girls”, she’s responsible for current camp dance smash “Nasty Girl”. |
TRACK INFO: - Released August 1998 - A top 2 hit which spent a humongous 23 weeks on the chart. Undisputedly the Ibiza anthem of 1998. - MC FACT ATTACK: - This track was a hit in the month of Chris and Dave’s infamous first visit to The White Isle in 1998. To access pics and videos from Ibiza 98 click onto this post I made on the messageboard. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on NOW 41. CD 2 I believe. The bulk of the tracks are awful though I seem to recall.
MOYLES IN AMERICA - WEDNESDAY 08/10 2005 (MC) [Posted Sunday, August 14 2005 by MC_]
 | Happy Mondays Loose Fit - “Loose fit” is what you might see written on a pair of jeans - Jeans are made out of a material called denim - Denim has always been popular with cowboys - Cowboys are something that you’d associate with America - America is made up of lots of different States - and as of today, in approximately sixty seconds time, you’ll be able to hear us, not just in the UK and around the world on the information super highway, but also live across the United States, via a satellite radio service called Sirius - That’s right, we’re literally moments away from making radio history by broadcasting this show and the rest of Radio 1’s award winning output, to the nice people of America, who can listen to us live on their digital radios in the bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen, the lounge, the car, or even the office - “The Office” is a good example of a British export which has worked well in the States, a bit like the new mini and Hugh Grant - and we hope to follow in those footsteps as we unleash our raw power on a new audience, the people across the pond, the citizens of the USA, and the people who are quite literally “living in America” - Which links us predictably to this mornings historic Tedious Link track, by the godfather of soul... James Brown and Living In America
- SEAMLESS?: - David Comedic said positive, but I say negative: *The time shift means “live across the United States, via a satellite radio service called Sirius” is a big fat lie. |
TRACK LOWDOWN: - Released 1986 January - 86/01 - In like a bullet at big number 5 in the UK’s Hot 40 Billboard Countdown!!!!!!!!! Woooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
* I’m trying to appeal to my new American readers here if you haven’t noticed. - ATTACK FACT: - America is made up of 50 states. FACT. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Who cares. God bless America.

Meet my wife and my sister. Heeeeeeere she is.

 | The Beloved Hello - “Hello” is also the title of a classic record by Lionel Richie - Lionel Richie is I think the father, or step-father, of Nicole Richie, who’s best mates with Paris Hilton - Paris Hilton has got a boyfriend who is also called Paris, even though I don’t think either of them are actually French - As well as being a nationality, “French” is also a type of knickers, kissing and mustard - Mustard is often served with steak, while steak is often served with chips - Chips need salt & vinegar - Vinegar is natures secret weapon, it can be used to cure disease and also get stains out of clothes and stuff - Clothes come in different sizes, as do dogs - Dogs, especially big dogs, need lots of exercise - Exercise will help you lose weight and get fit - ‘Fit” rhymes with “mitt”, which is a crucial bit of kit in the sport of baseball - Baseball is the subject of the American remake of “Fever Pitch”, which is called “A Perfect Catch” - “Catch” is a word associated with fish, which is often on the menu in Ibiza - Radio 1 is this weekend celebrating ten years in Ibiza - and when we first went to The White Isle, we met up with our great mate Mr Shaun Ryder, who used to be in the Happy Mondays - Which links us to todays Tedious inspired Ibiza track, the Happy Mondays and Loose Fit
- SEAMLESS?: - Not really: *Nicole Richie is the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie, not his real daughter or step-daughter. *She’s also fallen out big time with Paris Hilton, so to state that the two were “best mates” was factually incorrect. |
TRACK INFO: - Released March 1991 - Spent 7 weeks on the chart and got to number 17. - MC FACT ATTACK: - The time Dave is referring to, i.e when they met up with Shaun Ryder, was in 1998 at Manumission in Ibiza - where Shaun famously called Chris “Dave Pearce” to the random blond on his arm. - ALBUM DETAILS: - On “Pills 'N' Thrills And Bellyaches”, the Mondays’ top 4 debut album, released in November 1990. The third single after Step On and Kinky Afro.

 | Kym Sims Too Blind To See It - Kym Sims shares the same first name as Kym Carnes, who had a 1981 hit with “Bette Davis Eyes” - Eyes are what enable you to see - “C” is also the third letter of the alphabet, while sea as in the north sea, is what separates the UK from Norway - Norway gets very cold and is somewhere you might find reindeers - Reindeers are what Father Christmas uses to pull his sleigh - If you remove the first letter of “sleigh” you get “Leigh”, who were sadly relegated over the weekend after getting battered 74-0 by Leeds Rhinos - Rhinos in the wild are very dangerous and will charge at you using their sharp horn - Horn first name Trevor is a famous music producer, whose made albums for Seal, who now goes out with Heidi Klum - The word “klum” is almost an anagram of milk, which is something you might pour over your cereal for breakfast - Breakfast is apparently the most important meal of the day - “Day” in German is “tag”, while in French it’s “jour” as in “bonjour”, which literally translated means “good day”, which is used as a general, daytime greeting by the French, in the same way that we use the word “hello” - Which links us to The Beloved and Hello
- SEAMLESS?: - Don’t be silly: *Some people suggested a rhino’s horn isn’t sharp, although Dave begged to differ. *I would also debate whether “Kym” Syms and “Kim” Carnes actually share the same name - they only do so phonetically. *There was also quibbles over the plural of reindeer... which is actually “reindeer”, not “reindeers” as Dave incorrectly stated. |
TRACK INFO: - Released January 1990 - Reached number 19 in the charts, spending 7 weeks on the countdown. - MC FACT ATTACK: - The Beloved were one of the first British indie bands after the acid house revolution to swap guitars for a more dance based sound... fact. Plus they managed to rhyme "Jean-Paul Sartre" with "Jeffrey Archer" in this track, so therefore automatically have my respect. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from The Beloved’s top 14 March 1990 album “Happiness”.

 | Sum 41 Fat Lip - Sum 41 is what you get if you add 23 to 18 - 18 years is the age at which you can drink and vote in the UK - The UK is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - Northern Ireland is the birthplace of both Colin Murray and Roy Walker - Roy Walker is a legend - “Legend” is the title of a Best Of album from Bob Marley - Bob Marley used to like football - The football season kicks off tomorrow - “Tomorrow” is a song you’d associate with the musical Annie - “Annie” is the Radio 1 first name that links Nightingale with Mac - A mac is what you’d wear in the rain - “Rain” was a 1993 hit for Madonna - Madonna is married to Guy Ritchie - Guy Ritchie produced Snatch - “Snatch” is a word that you’d associate with handbags, while “handbags” is a word you’d associate with dawn - “Dawn” is a good example of a popular one syllable girls name, a bit like the name “Kym” - and when you think of the name Kym in the context of great records from the early 90’s, from an artist with a two, one syllable almost rhyming name, you think of Kym Sims - Which links us to Kym Sims and Too Blind To See It
- FLAWS: - Seamless supposedly, but: *Is it just me or did Guy Ritchie direct Snatch, not just produce it?
Bar that, yes seamless. |
TRACK INFO: - Released December 1991 - Reached number five in the Top 40, spending 12 weeks on the chart in total. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Hmm. ONE HIT WONDER springs to mind. Kym only got into the Top 40 two more times after this track was released. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From Kym’s April 92 debut release, coincidentally also titled “Too Blind To See It”. Too blind for the public to see it in their record shops too, as it only got to number 39 in the album charts. Ha. Alternatively on “Cream Classics Volume 2: The Biggest Cream Tracks Ever”.

 | James Come Home - James frontman Tim Booth supports Leeds United, and in that respect shares something in common with Kelly Jones - Kelly Jones shares the same first name as Kelly LeBrock, who starred in the classic 80’s film “Weird Science” - Science is a subject that you learn at school, and was also the street name of Kieron from Big Brother, who was in the house with the likes of Derek, Kemal and Orlaith - Orlaith has two 18 year old sisters, who are twins - “Twins” was the title of a 1988 film starring Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger - Arnold Schwarzenegger is now an Amercian citizen, but was actually born in his native Austria - The capital of Austria is Vienna - “Vienna” was a 1981 hit for Ultravox - Ultravox were led by Midge Ure, who was the unsung hero behind the colossal Live8 gigs, which took place last month - If you remove the middle letter of the word “month” you get “moth”, which is the type of horrible flying thing that you get in your wardrobe and actually eats your clothes - Clothes are crucial in the world of fashion - and the world of fashion is dominated by many big name designers, such as Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith - and Paul Smith shares the same surname as Robert Smith, from The Cure - Which links us to the classic Love Cats by The Cure
- FLAWS: - A couple of minor quibbles: *Moths don’t eat your clothes according to one texter. It’s the caterpillar or larvae of the moth that does so... or summat. *Plus, Tim Booth left James so isn't the frontman, he's the ex frontman. (Only I picked up on that... thanks). |
TRACK INFO: - Released October 1983 - Got to no. 7 in the chart, spending 11 weeks inside the Top 40. - MC FACT ATTACK: - This was initially written as a parody, and Robert Smith later distanced himself from the song. - FLAWS: - Totally seamless supposedly*
*Can’t be arsed checking. |

 | S Express The Theme from S-Express - If you phonetically remove the “press” part of S-Express, you’re left with “Essex”, which is the county that gave us Graham Gooch and Denise Van Outen - Denise Van Outen is currently doing This Morning with Richard Bacon - Bacon is something you might have for breakfast, as are eggs - Eggs come from chickens - Chickens have feathers, as do geese - and it’s the feathers from geese that I think are used in pillows - Pillows are classified in the department store as “bedding” - “Bedding” rhymes with “redding”, as in Otis Redding, who had a big hit with “Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay” - Bay leaves are used for cooking and can be found in the spice section, along with rosemary & tyme - “Time To Grow” got to number 9 this year for Lemar - Lemar was in Fame Academy, and performed with the legend that is Lionel Richie, who we met at the Brit Awards when we were going to the toilet - Toilet is represented internationally with the letters “WC”, which are also the initials of Wes Craven, who directed Scream, which starred Courtney Cox - Courtney Cox has been interviewed by Michael Parkinson, as has Steve Coogan - and Steve Coogan’s brother is in the band the Mock Turtles - Which links us to the classic Mock Turtles and Can You Dig It?
- FLAWS: - “Pretty much bang on, as it were” to quote the comedic fella himself. Bar this flaw here: *Bay leaves and rosemary & tyme are herbs, not spices. |
