Embrace Come Back To What You Know - An embrace is what you might give somebody who you haven’t seen for a long time - “Time After Time” was a 1984 hit for Cyndi Lauper - Cyndi Lauper, along with Kenny Loggins, appeared on “We Are The World” - We Are The World was like the American version of Band Aid - “Band aid” is what the Americans call a plaster - Plaster of Paris is what you might have on your walls - “Walls come tumbling down” was a 1985 hit for The Style Council - The Style Council were fronted by Paul Weller - Paul Weller is mates with the Gallaghers and the lads out of Ocean Colour Scene - Ocean Colour Scene were the band who recorded “The Riverboat Song” - “The Riverboat Song” was released in 1996, the same year that “Something For The Weekend” was a top 14 smash for Divine Comedy, whose biggest hit to date was their 1999 offering “National Express” - “National Express” is one of only four records that I can think of that contain the word “express”, the other three being the two “Express Yourself” records, by Madonna and N.W.A respectively, and of course The Theme from S-Express by S Express - Which links us to this mornings summer Friday thing, fat Friday Tedious choice, it is of course S Express and The Theme from S-Express

    - FLAWS: - Yep, one to end the week:
*Plaster Of Paris is usually used for sculptures, modelling and treating broken limbs, rather than putting on walls. Nice.

TRACK INFO: - Released April 1988
    - This track spent 2 weeks at number one and a total of 13 weeks in the UK Top 40.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - The singer in S Express was Sonia Clarke, better known in 2000 as Sonique, who had top ten hits with “It Feels So Good”, “Sky” and “I Put A Spell On You”.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on the S Express Best Of Collection “Ultimate”. That’s it. Have a nice weekend everyone.

Zero 7 Destiny - If you add an apostrophe, S and “Child” to the end of Destiny you get “Destiny’s Child”, who are from Texas like George W Bush - “Bush” is the name of the band fronted by Gavin Rossdale, who is married to Gwen Stefani - Gwen Stefani has the same initials as Gordon Sumner, who’s better known as Sting - “Sting” is a word you’d associate with bees and wasps - Wasps are more prevalent in the summer - “Summer Loving” was one of the tracks on the soundtrack to the movie “Grease”, which starred Olivia Newton John and John Travolta - John Travolta is a big fan of Flying Planes and is a fully qualified pilot - The word “pilot” is almost an anagram of “tulip”, which is the national flower of the Netherlands - The Netherlands are also known as Holland, and people who come from there are called “Dutch”, and are generally very liberal and broad minded, and proud of their Dutch heritage, which involved lots of cheese, canals and windmills - Windmills were traditionally located next to water, and in that respect share something in common with lighthouses - Lighthouses are crucial in the world of navigation, for preventing ships from running aground on rocks, which can quite literally “come out of knowhere” - and “From Out Of Knowhere” is the title of the current album from Embrace - Which links us to a bit of classic Embrace action, Embrace and Come Back To What You Know

    - FLAWS: - Completely flawed 100%:
*Embrace’s current album is “Out Of Nothing”, not “From Out Of Knowhere”. Thus, with “knowhere” being the connecting link, the whole thing is screwed.
*Also, the track on the Grease album isn’t “Summer Loving” - it’s actually called “Summer Nights”.
*Plus (three for good luck) - Windmills dont have to be near water, that’s watermills.

TRACK INFO: - Released June 1998
    - Got to number six in the Top 40, spending 8 weeks on the chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - Come Back To What You Know was track 6 on disc 2 of Now 41. I know because I bought it. Fact. So ner.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - From “The Good Will Out”, Embrace’s number 1 debut album - released also in June 1998, it spent 21 weeks on the chart.

Daft Punk Digital Love - Daft Punk are from France, who disappointingly missed out on the chance to host the Olympics in 2012 - If you add up all the constituent numbers that make up the numerical representation of the year 2012, you get 5 - 5ive had a big hit with “Slam Dunk Da Funk” - “Slam Dunk” is a term for the sport of basketball - Basketball is a sport where it’s advantageous to be unusually tall, a bit like Peter Crouch - “Crouch” rhymes with “pouch”, which is where a maternal kangaroo keeps her young - Young first name Paul is mates with Zucchero - “Zucchero” is the Italian word for sugar - Sugar is what you’d add to tea or coffee to make it sweeter, although you wouldn’t if your name was Drew Barrymore, cause apparently she’s allergic to coffee, fact fans - Coffee is a major export from Colombia - “Colombia” was also the name of a famous space shuttle - A space shuttle featured in the James Bond movie “Moonraker” - James Bond is also known as 007 - and if you remove the first number in the numerical sequence 007, you’re left with... that’s right... Zero 7 - Which links us to one of my favourite tracks, and yours as well, Zero 7 and Destiny

    - FLAWS: - Nah. Seamless. Chris rushed through the post link analysis.. just a coincidence that Drew Barrymore was waiting next door to come in. Mmm. Perhaps.

TRACK INFO: - Released August 2001
    - Destiny got to number 30 and spent 3 weeks on the UK Singles Chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - Zero 7 are the London based producer duo of Sam Hardaker and Henry Binns. Zero 7 first became known for their remixes of Radiohead, Lenny Kravitz and Sneaker Pimps before hitting the top 30 with “Destiny” in August 2001.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the album “Simple Things” which went gold in the UK, and peaked at number 28 in the UK Album Charts when released (also) back in August 2001. It was also nominated for the 2001 Mercury Music Prize alongside PJ Harvey, Radiohead, Basement Jaxx, Goldfrapp, and Gorillaz.

Soup Dragons I’m Free - “I’m Free” was the catchphrase of John Inman’s character Mr Humphries in “Are You Being Served?”, which also starred Wendy Richard, who played EastEnders launderette legend Pauline Fowler - Pauline Fowler was married to Arthur, and has a son called Martin, who is now with Sonia, who used to be with Jamie, and before that used to play the trumpet - The trumpet comes under the “orchestral” classification of brass - “Brass monkeys” is an expression meaning the weather is cold - Coldplay’s current album is called X&Y - X&Y are the two types of chromosomes in the human body, which I think also have something to do with DNA - “DNA” was the name of the band that, along with Suzanne Vega, had a 1990 hit with “Tom’s Diner” - “Diner” rhymes with “miner”, which is somebody who worked down pit - If you add a T onto the end of “pit” you get “pitt”, as in Brad Pitt, who is technically still married to Jennifer Aniston, but is now hanging out with Angelina Jolie, who’s got a son called Maddox, who’s from Cambodia - Cambodia shares a border with Vietnam - Vietnam was colonised by the French, as was Cambodia I think - and when you think of the French in terms of popular music, it’s all pretty dreadful really, with one notable exception being Daft Punk - Which links us to Daft Punk and Digital Love

    - FLAWS: - Just some guff about chromosomes that no one really gives a monkeys about, so no. A seamless link from Comedy Dave.

TRACK INFO: - Released June 2001
    - This track got to number 14 and spent 7 weeks on The Official UK Top 40.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - Daft Punk are actually production duo Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo. Fact.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - From March 2001’s top 2 album “Discovery”, the follow up to February 1997’s top 8 debut “Homework”.

Rod Stewart Sailing - “Sailing” rhymes with “railing”, which is what you might chain your bike to - 2 times 6 is 12, which is known as a dozen and is the traditional number for packaging purposes, in the distribution of eggs - Eggs are laid by such diverse creatures as chickens, crocodiles and turtles - Turtles can apparently breathe through their bottom - “Bottom” was the title of a long running comedy series starring Rick Mayall and Ade Edmondson - Ade Edmondson is married to Jennifer Saunders, who’s best mates with Dawn French, who’s the other half of Lenny Henry, who’s big mates with Richard Curtis - Richard Curtis shares the same surname as Tony Curtis, who’s the father of Jamie Lee Curtis, who was in “A Fish Called Wanda” with Kevin Kline - If you add an E into the middle of “Kline” you get “Kleine”, which I think is the German word for “small” - Small first name Heather was the lead singer of M People, and had very high hair, a bit like Bett Lynch and Jason Lee, who used to play for Forest - “Forest Gump” is a classic film starring Tom Hanks - If you add a T to the front of “Hanks” you get “thanks”, which is what you might say to the fella on the gate if you’d just been released from prison - and if you had just been released from prison, the first words you’d probably say are “I’m free” - Which links us to The Soup Dragons and I’m Free

    - FLAWS: - No. *faints in shock*

TRACK INFO: - Released July 1990
    - This track went to number 5, and spent 12 weeks on the chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - “I’m Free” was actually written by The Rolling Stones. Fact.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Taken from the top 7 album “Lovegod”, which spent 15 weeks on the UK Album Chart when released back in May 1990.

[Posted Friday, July 22 2005 by MC_]

Run DMC & Aerosmith Walk This Way - Aerosmith are led by tunnel mouthed frontman Steven Tyler - Steven Tyler has a famous daughter called Liv - “Live And Let Die” is the title of a classic movie from the James Bond series - James Bond shares the same surname as Jennie Bond, who’s mates with the Royals - “Royals” are also the name of a type of ciggie - Ciggies are bad and smoking is bad - “Bad” was the title of the album that Michael Jackson released after Thriller - “Thriller” is a film category that you might see on the shelf in the video shop - I’m still banned from the video shop, under a silly misunderstanding - “Misunderstanding” is the present tense of the past tense word “misunderstood” - “Misunderstood” was the title of a top 8 hit last December for Mr Robbie Williams - Robbie Williams supports Port Vale - and if you remove the “Vale” part of Port Vale, you’re left simply with “port”, which is the opposite of starboard in the left and right worlds of canal boats, like what we’re on today, cause we’re “sailing” on a canal boat, on a canal, y’see, cause we’re all “sailing” - Which links us to this mornings very nautical and very special Tedious Link track, Rod Stewart and Sailing

    - FLAWS: - The show was live on a boat, thus without the text message system today. Thus no flaws suggested by listeners, thus a seamless link.

TRACK INFO: - Released August 1975
    - Topped the chart, then thirteen months later re entered at number 3 after the song was used as the theme to the BBC TV documentary series “Sailor”.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - This track was originally recorded by The Sutherland Brothers in 1972. Fact.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on November 2001’s double disc compilation “The Story So Far - The Very Best Of Rod Stewart”, or alternatively on some CD in your dads CD rack. Which you should then burn with immediate effect may I add.

Primal Scream Movin' On Up - “Movin' on up” is what you might be doing if you were rockclimbing - Rockclimbing is the sporting theme behind the film “Cliffhanger”, which starred Sylvester Stallone and former EastEnders actor Craig Fairbrass - Craig Fairbrass shares the same surname as both Richard Fairbrass and Fred Fairbrass, who were the two slaphead brothers in Right Said Fred - Right Said Fred had a 1991 hit with “I’m Too Sexy” - “Sexy Boy” was the title of a track by French act Air - Air is essential for humans to breathe - If you remove the last letter of the word “breathe” you get “breath”, which is what you might see on a cold day - Another thing you might see on a cold day is a gritter - “Gritter” rhymes with “pitta”, which is a type of Greek bread - Bread needs yeast in order for it to rise - “Rise To The Occasion” was a hit for Climie Fisher in the year 1987 - and if you rewind one year from 1987 you get to the year 1986, which is famous for many things, such as the World Cup in Mexico, Bob Geldof’s knighthood, and of course the groundbreaking collaboration between Run DMC & Aerosmith, which resulted in the top 8 hit “Walk This Way” in September of that year - Which links us to Run DMC & Aerosmith and Walk This Way

    - FLAWS: - One problem:
*Supposedly pitta bread originates from the Middle East, and not Greece. No one seemed entirely convinced, so Chris went off into talking about where he buys his pitta bread from. Fascinating stuff.

TRACK INFO: - Released September 1986
    - Spent 10 weeks on the chart and peaked at number 8.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - N'Sync, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly all sang on this with Aerosmith at the 2001 Super Bowl halftime show - and "Walk This Way" was also the title of Aerosmith's 1999 autobiography.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on “Run DMC: The Greatest Hits”, released in April 2003. Other tracks include “It’s Like That” and “It’s Tricky”.

Björk Big Time Sensuality - Björk once got into a strop with a reporter at an airport, and in that respect shares something in common with Elton John - Elton John shares the same first name as celebrity Evertonian Elton Welsby - Everton today play Thailand in Bangkok, come on lads! - Bangkok was the inspiration behind the Murray Head classic “One Night In Bangkok”, taken from the musical “Chess” - Chess involves knights and kings and pawns - If you add an R to the word “pawns” you get “prawns”, which turn pink when cooked, a bit like lobsters, which are also classed as “shellfish” - Shellfish can be a common allergy, a bit like pollen and nuts - Nuts are the staple diet of squirrels, which live in trees - Trees are crucial to the biosphere, as they are a major source of oxygen, which they produce during the process of photosynthesis - Photosynthesis is all about leaves - Leeves, first name Jane is a British actress who plays Daphne in Frasier - Frasier was a spin-off from the series “Cheers”, which was set in a bar - A bar was also the setting for much of the Tom Cruise film “Cocktail”, the soundtrack to which featured “Don't Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McPherrin - and Bobby McPherrin shares the same first name as Bobby Gillespie, the lead singer from Primal Scream - Which links us to Primal Scream and Movin' On Up

    - FLAWS: - Just one flaw today:
*A lobster is a crustacean, not actually a shellfish. Seriously though, does anybody actually give a toss?

TRACK INFO: - Released February 1992
    - Released on the “Dixie-Narco EP”, which spent 6 weeks on the chart and reached number 11.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - Primal Scream came across as twats at Glastonbury. Fact.

Stone Roses Waterfall - A waterfall can be an unwelcome sight if you’re in a canoe - Kanu first name Nwankwo plays for West Brom, as does Kevin Campbell (morning Kevin if you’re listening) - Kevin Campbell shares the same surname as Nicky Campbell (morning Nicky if you’re listening), who presents Watchdog - Watchdog used to be hosted by Anne Robinson, before she got really scary and nasty - “Nasty” was a 1986 hit for Janet Jackson, while “Nasty Girl” is a current floorfiller from Inaya Day, which curiously features a sample from Janet’s brother Michael Jackson, who has a pet chimp called “Bubbles” - Bubbles, or more precisely “Blowing Bubbles”, is a song you’d associate with West Ham - West Ham play in claret and blue, as do Burnley - Burnley play their home matches at Turf Moor - More is the opposite of less - If you remove the last letter of the word “less” you’re left with “les”, as in Les Dennis - Les Dennis has a couple of dogs, which like to go for walks - People also like to go for walks, and they’re called “ramblers” - and ramblers always pack sensible things in their bags like cagouls and tea bags and probably sugar cubes as well - and the Sugarcubes were the band that first launched the career of Björk - Which links us to this mornings Icelandic Tedious Link track, Björk and Big Time Sensuality

    - FLAWS: - Couple of discrepancies:
*Bubbles is like dead or at a chimp home or something, he ain’t with Jacko no more (apparently).
*Chris also thought the line about ramblers carrying sugar cubes was a bit tenuous, although Dave disputed that with talk of boiled water, kettles, flasks and other such stuff. I had switched off by that point (not literally, I just wasn’t listening that closely).

TRACK INFO: - Released December 1993
    - Björk’s fifth solo single release, this charted at number 17 and spent 8 weeks on the chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - Björk was born Björk Gudmundsdottir in November 1965. Making her 40 this year.. crikey!
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - From Björk’s July 93 top 3 debut “Debut”. That’s not a mis type btw, her debut album was in fact called “debut”. What a brainwave that was eh.

Black Box Ride On Time - Black Box are from Italy, as is Frankie Dettori - Frankie Dettori is a jockey, and his dad was also a jockey - Jockey Wilson on the other hand never rode horses and was actually a famous name in the world of darts, a bit like Phil “The Power” Taylor - Phil “The Power” Taylor is from the Potteries, as is Robbie Williams - Robbie Williams performed at Live8, as did Youssou N'Dour - Youssou N'Dour is probably most famous commercially for the record “7 Seconds”, which he recorded with Neneh Cherry - Neneh Cherry shares the same surname as Trevor Cherry, who used to play for Leeds United - Leeds United look set to sign striker Robbie Blake from Birmingham City - Birmingham City play their home matches at St. Andrews - A completely different sporting venue called “St. Andrews” is currently hosting The Open - “Open” is a word that is sometimes linked with the word “sesame” - “Sesame Street” is a show that features Cookie Monster and Big Bird - One of the biggest birds in the world is the ostrich - Ostriches can be found across the continent of Africa - and Africa is also where you find Angel Falls, which is a huge “waterfall” - Which links us predictably to the Stone Roses and Waterfall

    Hello by the way children.

    - FLAWS: - Back with a bang:
*The Open finished yesterday, so isn't being "currently hosted" by St. Andrews,
*Angel Falls isn't in Africa, it's in Venezuela. Victoria Falls is in Africa. Slick as ever David.

TRACK INFO: - Released January 1992
    - Reached number 27, spending 4 weeks in total on the Singles Chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - Although the album “The Stone Roses” was released in May 1989, singles were released and re issued from the album up until the middle of 1995. Fact.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - The Roses’ self titled debut peaked no higher than 19 in the UK Album Chart, yet is consistently ranked in the top 5 albums of all time. Voted Best British Album Of All Time in a 2004 edition of The Observer Music Monthly Magazine. Just buy it... thanks.

N*E*R*D Rock Star - N*E*R*D are one of those bands whose name is made up of just a load of initials, and in that respect share something in common with ELO, KLF and OMD - OMD had a 1991 hit with “Sailing On The Seven Seas” - The seven seas were sailed years ago by people like Christopher Columbus - Christopher Columbus shares the same surname as Christopher Reeve, who played Superman - “Superman” was a recent hit for the Stereophonics - The Stereophonics are Welsh, as are Charlotte Church and Sian Lloyd - Sian Lloyd concerns herself with weather, as do Rob McElwee and Michael Fish - Michael Fish stuffed up in 1987 by failing to forecast a major and hugely devastating hurricane - Hurricane #1 are the band that Andy Bell from Oasis used to be in - Andy Bell from Oasis shares the exact total same name as Andy Bell from Erasure, the band that also included Vince Clark, who used to be in Yazoo with Alison Moyet - Alison Moyet’s initials are “AM”, which means before lunch in the world of time and timetables - and timetables are important if buses and trains are to run on time - and obviously, if they run on time, then it means that you, the passenger, are able to “ride on time” - Which links us predictably to Black Box and Ride On Time

    - FLAWS: - One slip of the tongue by David:
*Christopher Columbus and Christopher Reeve share the same first name, not surname. *Chris tried to argue a case for ELO, KLF and OMD being acronymns/abbreviations, but seen as though N*E*R*D is to (no-one ever really dies) it didn’t quite work.

TRACK INFO: - Released August 1989
    - A huge six week run at number one for this track, which spent a further 18 inside The UK Top 40.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - Unsurprisingly (cos it’s great) this was 1989’s best selling single. Loleatta Holloway's song "Love Sensation" was the sample used.. she objected, so further pressings had a different singer.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on Black Box’s top 14 May 1990 album release “Dreamland”. That’s it then for two weeks kids. Play safe and don’t do drugs. Goodbye.

Cast Finetime - Cast were lead by curly haired frontman John Power - Power Station on the other hand were a mid 80's musical project that featured John and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran, with the late Robert Palmer on vocals - Robert Palmers’ lasting musical image comes from his “Addicted To Love” video, the one where his band is made up of all those heavily made up models - Models are also the sort of thing that you might build yourself, like model planes, which have become something of an obsession for Vernon Kay - Vernon Kay is from Bolton, and is a big fan of Big Sam - Sam Allardyce shares the same first name as Australian actor Sam Neill, who starred in “Jurassic Park” and “Dead Calm”, starring Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane - Billy Zane is now the celebrity beau of Kelly Brook, who has just spent 5 weeks working on Celebrity Love Island with Patrick Kielty - Patrick Kielty used to do a show called “Stupid Punts” - Punts are something you'd expect to see on the river in Cambridge - Cambridge University is somewhere you’d expect to find a lot of computers - Computers contain a hard disk, but you can transfer data from one computer to another, using a floppy disk - If you were interested in computing and megabytes and stuff when I was at school, you were considered to be something of a nerd - and the word “nerd” is spelt “N, E, R, D” - Which links us to N*E*R*D and Rock Star

    - FLAWS: - One fairly large flaw today:
*”Australian actor” Sam Neill was actually born in County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, and brought up in New Zealand. Nice research Dave.

TRACK INFO: - Released August 2002
    - Got to number 15 in The UK Top 40, spending a total of 4 weeks on the chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - I don’t have one for N*E*R*D unfortunately. Bar the fact they are sh*te... if that counts?
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the August 2002 album “In Search Of”, which only reached number 41 on the UK Album Chart. Ha.

PM Dawn Set Adrift On Memory Bliss - Set adrift is what you’d be if you were floating on a raft after surviving a ship wreck - A ship wreck was the reason why Robinson Crusoe was stranded on Treasure Island - Treasure Island was written by Robert Louis Stevenson - Robert Louis Stevenson shares the same surname as Pamela Stevenson, who is married to Billy Connolly - Billy Connolly supports Celtic, who are now managed by Gordon Strachan - Gordon Strachan used to play for Leeds United, who’ve drawn Oldham Athletic in the first round of the Carling Cup - Oldham is the home town of Lucy Pinder’s booby mate Michelle Marsh - A marsh is somewhere that you might find wading birds - and many marshes actually double up as bird sanctuaries - If there was a bird sanctuary that was owned by a woman, who’d actually had enough of running the sanctuary and wanted to sell it, you’d say that she was “selling the sanctuary” - “She Sells Sanctuary” is the title of a classic record by The Cult - The Cult are fronted by Ian Astbury, who supports Everton, the top team in the city of Liverpool - and the city of Liverpool has produced many great bands over the years, with one of the finest and most underrated being Cast - Which links us to Cast and Finetime

    - FLAWS: - Just the one flaw in Comedy Dave’s Tedious Link today:
*Robinson Crusoe was at no point stranded on Treasure Island. That was just Dave entirely mixing up two different stories in his head.

TRACK INFO: - Released July 1995
    - Finetime reached no. 17 in the UK Top 40 and spent 4 weeks on the chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - Cast were nominated for Best Newcomers at the 95 Brits, made up of members Liam Tyson, Peter Wilkinson, Keith O’Neill and ex La’s guitarist John Power as frontman.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - From Cast’s debut album “All Change”, released in October 1995. It went top 7 in the UK Album Chart, spending a mammoth 67 weeks on there in total.

U2 Desire - Desire was taken from U2’s 1988 album “Rattle And Hum” - “Hum” rhymes with “gum”, which could get you arrested if you chew it on the streets of Singapore - A “Singapore sling” is a type of cocktail, while “Cocktail” was the title of a movie starring Tom Cruise - Tom Cruise has just got himself engaged to actress Katie Holmes, off of Dawson’s Creek - “creek!” is the noise that old floorboards make - “Make” rhymes with both “bake” and “cake”, which is what you might be required to do if you were preparing for somebody’s birthday - “Happy Birthday” was the title of two different tracks by two different artists which reached the same number two chart position for Stevie Wonder and Altered Images respectively in the year 1981 - 1981 was the year that Charles and Diana got married in Westminster Abbey in London - London is the setting for EastEnders, which has an extensive list of ex cast members, which include Susan Tully, Michael Greco and Martin Kemp - Martin Kemp used to be in Spandau Ballet along with brother Gary, Tony Hadley and some other boke - and Spandau Ballet’s biggest record was undoubtedly “True”, which was sampled by PM Dawn on the 1991 hit "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss" - Which links us predictably to PM Dawn and Set Adrift On Memory Bliss

    - FLAWS: - Of course:
*Charles and Diana got married at St Paul's Cathedral, not Westminster Abbey. Bar that, admittedly it was pretty much there.

TRACK INFO: - Released August 1991
    - An American number one which went top 3 here, spending 8 weeks on the UK Singles Chart.

The Wurzels Combine Harvester - A combine harvester is what you might use to harvest corn, while a different type of corn is what you might find on your feet - The singular form of feet is “foot”, which in humans contains five toes - “Toes” rhymes with “nose”, which is the organ used to smell - If you remove the first and last letters of the word “smell” you’re left with “Mel”, as in Mel B, Mel C or Mel Brooks, the actor and director whose been in many movies over the years including “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” and “Blazing Saddles” - Saddles are like seats on horses - Horses eat hay - “Hey Dude” was a 1996 hit for Kula Shaker - Kula Shaker frontman Crispin is the son of movie actress Hayley Mills - Hayley Mills shares the same surname as Scott Mills, who’s on at 4 - 4 is the square route of 16, whilst 16 is the age at which you’re allowed to ride a moped in this country - “Country vegetable” is a popular flavour of soup - Soup is the only thing you’d be able to eat if you’d just had your teeth capped - Caps are what you earn if you represent your country in football or rugby - and rugby is a sport you’d associate with Murrayfield and Twickenham, which are two of the stadium venues on the current tour by U2 - Which links us to U2 and Desire

    - FLAWS: - Dave called these mistakes “borderline incorrect” but basically he ballsed the link up big time today:
    *The nose isn’t an organ.
*A dentist texted in to say you can’t eat anything after you’ve had your teeth capped, not even soup.
*Oh and U2 played Hampden Park, not Murrayfield. Kind of critical to the link that one.

TRACK INFO: - Released October 1988
    - U2’s debut chart topper, which spent 8 weeks on the countdown in total.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - The first of (as far) six UK number one singles for U2, the others being “The Fly” (Nov 1991), “Discotheque” (February 1997), “Beautiful Day” (October 2000), “Vertigo” (November 2004) and “Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own” (February 2005).
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the multi selling cross Atlantic chart topper “Rattle And Hum”, released also in October 1988 - spending 61 weeks on the UK Album Chart.

The Charlatans Love Is The Key - “Love Is The Key” was a hit in 2001, the year that was originally “a space odyssey” - “Odyssey” was also the name of a disco combo who scored a top four hit in 1981 with “Back To My Roots” - Roots are what trees use to eat - Eat is what you’d be desperate to do if you’d been marooned on a desert island for weeks on end, a bit like Paul Danan and Lee Sharpe, but without any food - “Food” is the name of the record label that launched the band Blur - Blur is what you’d be looking through if you’d forgotten your contact lenses - The word “lenses” shares many of the same letters as “senses”, which we have five of - Five is also the amount of gold rings that feature in the 12 Days Of Christmas - Christmas first name Lloyd is the name of the Dumb and Dumber character played by Jim Carrey - Jim Carrey has a bit of a rubbery face, a bit like 80’s comedian Phil Cool - “Cool” is what people at Glastonbury say a lot, along with words like “cosmic”, “far out”, “chill out” and “dude” - Glastonbury is in Somerset, which is also the home of our resident wurzel Carrie Davis, whose birthday it is today - and with all that in mind it seems only appropriate that we play something for Carrie and something to get us right in the mood for the Glastonbury festival, it is of course The Wurzels and Combine Harvester - Which links us to The Wurzels and Combine Harvester

    - FLAWS: - A few this morning:
*The full title of the Odyssey track was actually “Going Back To My Roots”.
*If you’d forgotten your contact lenses surely your vision would be blurred, rather than you actually looking through a blur.
*”Far out” and “chill out” are also not single words, as is clearly evident. Tut tut.

TRACK INFO: - Released May 1976 + remixed in August 2001
    - The original got to number 1 and the remix the other end of the spectrum at 39. The track has spent a collective total of 15 weeks on the UK Singles Chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - The finest band to ever come out of the West Country. Fact. Except maybe all the others.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on the “The Finest 'Arvest of the Wurzels”, a 2001 album seemingly compulsory to all Somerset households.. well judging by Daves non stereotypical link of course. Also contains other classic tracks such as “I Am A Cider Drinker, ”I Wish I Was Back On The Farm” and “I'll Never Get A Scrumpy Here”. As you can see, The Wurzels ain’t doing much work for the Somerset Tourist Board at the minute.

*HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CARRIE FROM CHRISMOYLES.NET - 29 TODAY! (Her, not us).

Groove Armada Superstylin' - Groove Armada are one of the few dance acts in the world to include the use of a live trombone - The trombone is a brass instrument that uses a slide - "Slide Away" is an Oasis classic, taken from the Definitely Maybe album released in 1994 - 1994 was the year that the World Cup was hosted by the USA - The USA is a country that uses the presidential system of leadership - The Presidents Of The USA was also the name of a band who had a top 8 hit in 1996 with "Peaches" - Peaches are a fruit that are often sold in tins - Tins are, as the name would suggest, made from the metal “tin”, which was traditionally mined in Cornwall - Cornwall is a nice place to go on holiday, as is Majorca - Majorca has been put on the world music map as the home of DJ Sammy - DJ Sammy's current musical offering is a re interpretation of the Annie Lennox classic "Why" - Y can also be a letter in the English language, a bit like A, B or C - and C is the first letter of a lot of great bands that we know and love, such as Chicago, Cast, Creedence Clearwater Revival and of course The Charlatans - Which links us to The Charlatans and Love Is The Key

    - FLAWS: - I would question the fact that Chicago and Creedence Clearwater Revival are bands we know and love.. but bar that yeah seamless I suppose.

TRACK INFO: - Released September 2001
    - Got to number 16 (should have been top 5 easily), and spent a total of just 3 weeks on the chart.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - The second Charlatans Tedious Link track in five weeks, after “North Country Boy” was played on May 19th.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the September 2001 album “Wonderland”, which got to number 2 on the album chart, spending 5 weeks on there in total.

R.E.M It's The End Of The World As We Know It - R.E.M have a guitarist called Peter Buck - “Buck” is a word associated with male rabbits - Rabbits tend to have floppy ears - If you add the letter “B” into the front of “ears” you get “bears”, which can be really big and live on fresh salmon and stuff - Salmon is pink - Pink had a big hit with “Get The Party Started”, although Pink isn’t her real name and she was actually born Alicia Moore - Alicia Moore shares the same surname as Dudley Moore, who starred in many fine movies including “Arthur 2: On the Rocks” - “On the rocks” in the world of bar stewards means “over ice” - Ice is what you’d expect to find in Alaska - Alaska is one of only two United States that exist outside of continental USA - The USA and much of South America was discovered by the Spaniards, who were decent sailors, and used to go off discovering places and making them all speak Spanish and stuff, years ago - They used to do this by setting off in a big group of ships, and they used to call this group of ships an “armada” - and when you think of the word “armada” in the context of great bands who make great records, which might sound nice on a sunny day (hope it’s sunny where you are), you think of Groove Armada - Which links us to Groove Armada and Superstylin'

    - FLAWS: - Surprisingly no. Mark this day in your diary kids.

TRACK INFO: - Released August 2001
    - Spent 7 weeks on the chart, peaking outside the top ten at number 12.

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - The second Tedious Link this week to include “super” in it’s title... and that my friends, is what you call scraping the bottom of the barrel.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on October 2004’s top six album “Groove Armada: The Best Of”, which features 13 other tracks including “At The River”, “I See You Baby” and “If Everybody Looked The Same”.

Stevie Wonder Superstition - Stevie Wonder appeared in the “We Are The World” video along with Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper and Kenny Loggins - Kenny Loggins had a 1984 hit with “Foot Loose”, the title track of the movie of the same name, which starred Kevin Bacon, who also starred in “Flatliners” along with 24 star Kiefer Sutherland - Kiefer Sutherland has a father called Donald - “Donald” is probably the most popular name for a pet duck, along with Howard, while Howard Donald (who had nothing to do with ducks whatsoever) was actually the hairy Jesus looking one in Take That - The amount of number one hit singles amassed by Take That during their early 90’s pop reign totals 8 - 8 is regarded by the Chinese as being a lucky number, unlike 4, which is considered unlucky cos it sounds a bit like the word “death” - Death In Vegas were originally meant to produce the current Oasis album “Don’t Believe The Truth” - If you remove the first letter of “truth” you’re left simply with “ruth”, as in Ruth Rendall, who does those mysteries and stuff - “Mysterious Ways” was a 1991 hit for U2, who Dom and Chris and Rachel saw on Saturday night at Twickenham - Twickenham is somewhere you’d normally watch rugby - Rugby is played in jerseys which are normally distinguishable from one other, by different coloured stripes and stuff - and if you remove the letter “R” from the word “stripe” you’re left simply with “stipe”, as in Michael Stipe from R.E.M - Which links us to R.E.M and It's The End Of The World As We Know It

    - FLAWS: - A couple as expected:
*Rugby jerseys apparently have hoops and not stripes or something.. those crazy egg chasers.
*Plus, of course, “four” doesn’t sound anything like “death” - be it in English, Cantonese or er.. Hebrew. Dave was fighting a losing battle put it that way.

TRACK INFO: - Released December 1991
    - Surely the greatest record ever to go in at number 39? Surely?

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - The line "Lenny Bruce, Lester Bangs, Birthday party cheesecake jelly bean boom" was inspired by a party in New York that Michael Stipe and Peter Buck went to for Lester Bang, a music critic’s, birthday.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Available on “The Best Of R.E.M”, a top 7 album back in October 1991, charting the bands history up to 1987. The final track on the album is the highlight, being said song chosen by Mr Vitty. Surely the best record to put on if you are told you have 5 minutes left to live btw.

Faithless We Come 1 - Faithless are fronted by Maxi Jazz and Sister Bliss - “Bliss” rhymes with “hiss”, which is the noise made by a snake - The plural of snake is “snakes”, which in the world of board games are the opposite of ladders - Ladders are used by painters and window cleaners - Window cleaners normally require a bucket - “Bucket” was the title of a recent record by the Kings Of Leon - “Lyon” spelt with a Y rather than an E is France’s second city after Paris - Paris Hilton is a millionairess socialite, who is now also famous for her movie work - If you swap the first letter of “work” for a P you get “pork”, which is what you might serve apple sauce with - Apple sauce is normally served in jars, a bit like honey - “Honey To The Bee” was a 1999 hit for Billie Piper, who now stars in Doctor Who alongside Christopher Eccleston - Christopher Eccleston is a famous actor, a bit like Will Smith - Will Smith has starred in loads of movies over the years, the most recent ones being “Hitch” and “iRobot” - and iRobot has a soundtrack that features the classic Stevie Wonder track “Superstition” - Which links us to a bit of special Stevie Wonder action on a Monday morning, Stevie Wonder and Superstition

    - FLAWS: - Three this morning:
*Apple sauce isn’t served in jars apparently.
*Christopher Eccleston doesn’t star with Billie Piper now in Doctor Who, that’s David Tennant.
*Also not spotted by listeners in listener land, “The Bucket” not “Bucket” was the title of the recent record by Kings Of Leon. Pernickity maybe, but factually correct nonetheless.

TRACK INFO: - Released February 1973
    - Criminally failed to go top ten (reached number 11) and spent 9 weeks on the chart...

    - MC FACT ATTACK: - This track was intended for Jeff Beck but Stevie Wonder recorded a rough version, which was released before Beck came round to recording it.. and the rest as they say, is history. This was also recorded at Electric Lady Studios, which is where Jimi Hendrix recorded. Fact.
    - ALBUM DETAILS: - Track 1 on Disc 1 of “Stevie Wonder: The Definitive Collection”, a number 16 album chart hit back in November 2002.

*Big thanks to Console from the messageboard for helping me out with a clip of todays link.
