 | EMF Unbelievable - “Unbelievable” was released in 1990, making it fifteen years old - If you’re fifteen years old and a person, you’re legally able to operate a petrol pump - Petrol pumps come in different colours to represent the different types of fuel, like petrol and diesel - “Diesel” rhymes with “easel”, which is what an artist uses to paint - “Paint It Black” was a big hit for the Rolling Stones - The singular form of the word “stones” is “stone”, as in Joss Stone, who’s apparently just become single - Single is the opposite of double in the world of cream - “Cream” was a 1991 hit for Prince & the New Power Generation - “The Generation Game” was hosted recently by Jim Davidson - Jim Davidson once famously upset the residents of Great Yarmouth - Great Yarmouth has a pier, and in that respect shares something in common with Blackpool - Blackpool is a good place to eat fish and chips, cockels and mussels, and scampi in a basket - and when you think of the word “basket” in the context of great records, by great bands who come from America, you think of course of Green Day and Basket Case - Which links us to Green Day and Basket Case
- SEAMLESS?: - Petrol pump debate time: *Cue “Get Dom On It”, to see if you are able to operate a petrol pump at fifteen or not. If you missed it or can’t remember, Dom got through to an Asian petrol station worker who was quick to put the phone down on him, after revealing you have to be 16 to operate a pump. Cue Dom’s brilliant response: “oh, brilliant, bye bye”. |

- SEAMLESS?: - Dave opened up a religious can of worms today with his line about Jesus’s father being Joseph: *Dave said that according to the teachings of the Bible, surely Jesus’s father was Joseph. Others though were arguing that Jesus is in fact the son of God, although Dave said he’d like to have seen them put down that on the birth certificate. *Chris also mentioned the birth being the “immaculate conception”, which resulted in the best gag of the show today: Dave - Which was also a Madonna album as well.. Chris - No that was the Immaculate Collection Dave - oh yeah.. |
TRACK INFO: - Released November 1990 - Spent over three months on the chart (13 weeks to be exact), reaching numero trois on the Official UK Chart. - MC FACT ATTACK: - EMF stands for “Epsom Mad F*ckers”. | Duran Duran The Reflex - “The reflex” is a term that refers to an angle that is greater in size than 360 degrees - 360 degrees minus 357 degrees leaves you with just the 3 degrees - The Three Degrees were a 1970’s soul group, who had a number one chart topper with “When Will I See You Again” - “When will I see you again?” is what you might say to your parole officer if you were serving time in prison - When you’re in prison, serving a sentence, it’s known by the inmates as “doing porridge” - Porridge is what Rachel and the three little bears eat for breakfast - The three little bears feature in the famous nursery rhyme with goldilocks - Goldilocks wore a red cape - “Cape” are a well known make of apple - Apple is a popular flavour of pie - Pi is also a mathematical formula that I think is something to do with a circle - Circle is the shape of most of the planets in space - and when you think of space, and whether alien life exists or not, the question that is often asked is “is there anybody out there?” - Which links us to predictably to one of my favourite records, a very very Tedious Link Friday offering from The Bassheads and Is There Anybody Out There
- SEAMLESS?: - No no no no. Daves fine run is over. Mathematical problems today: *A reflex angle is not an angle that measures greater in size than 360 degrees, as 360 degrees is a full turn. Dave thought upon reflection that it might be greater than 180 degrees, which Google seems to agree with (kind of). |
TRACK INFO: - Released November 1991 - Reached number 5 in the chart, with a total of 8 weeks on the Top 40. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Last played as a Tedious on Friday 29th November 2002. It’s the best I can do by the way. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the Bassheads’ album “Codes” - didn’t make the Top 40 Album Chart here unfortunately.

Get it on the 1983 album “Seven And The Ragged Tiger”, or if you’re after more of a compilation - the 1998 collection “Greatest” has it there. Lovely.

 | Madonna Open Your Heart - “Open Your Heart” was taken from Madonna’s “True Blue” album, which was released in 1986, the same year that Bob Geldof received a knighthood for his charity work - Bob Geldof is from Dublin, as is Craig Doyle - Craig Doyle is a very well travelled man, having been “all around the world” - “All Around The World” was a number one chart topper in 1989 for Lisa Stansfield - Lisa Stansfield is from Rochdale, as is Andy Kershaw - Andy Kershaw shares the same surname as both Liz Kershaw and Nik Kershaw - Nik Kershaw had many hits of his own, and also wrote the Chesney Hawkes classic “The One and Only” - Chesney Hawkes’s dad was in a band called the Tremeloes - The word “tremeloe” shares many of the same letters as the word “tomatoes”, which would normally start to die in October - “October” was the title of an early album from U2 - and when you think of U2 and some of the most beautiful records that they’ve made over the years, few can match the emotional quality of their classic 1992 offering, entitled simply “One” - Which links us predictably to U2 and One
- SEAMLESS?: - Absolutely flawless. |
TRACK INFO: - Released March 1992 - Reached number seven, spending six successful weeks inside the UK Top 40. - MC FACT ATTACK: - According to a special edition of Q Magazine released a couple of years ago, quite simply this is the best song of all time. | Feeder Buck Rogers - “Buck Rogers” shares the same surname as “Ted Rogers”, who used to present the legendary gameshow “3-2-1” - If you add up 3, 2 and 1, you get the number 6 - Sixpence None The Richer had a 1999 hit with “Kiss Me” - “Kiss Me” was also the title of a 1985 hit for Stephen 'Tin Tin' Duffy, who is now working with Robbie Williams, and produced his new album “Intensive Care” - Instensive care is where you’d probably end up if you’d had a bad accident and fallen off a horse or something - Horse hair, from the tail of a horse, is used to make the bow for a violin or a cello and stuff - Violins and cellos are collectively known in the world of orchestral classification as “strings” - “Strings Of Life” was a hit earlier this year for Soul Central featuring Kathy Brown - Kathy Brown shares the same surname as Craig Brown, who used to manage Scotland and Preston North End - “Preston” is the middle name of the baby son of Britney Spears - Britney Spears once snogged Madonna with an open mouth - and when you think of the word “Madonna” and the word “open”, you think of Open Your Heart by Madonna - Which links us cleverly this morning to Madonna and Open Your Heart
- SEAMLESS?: - Dave thought so, but wasn’t exactly sure because the jokes coming in for Jimmy Carr had clogged up the studio text messaging system. |
TRACK INFO: - Released December 1986 - Reached number four on the Official Chart, spending nine weeks on there in total. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Yet ANOTHER Madonna tune on Tedious. As you’d expect, available on Madonna’s “Immaculate Collection” compilation, which (as I say everytime Dave chooses Madonna on this feature) has sold more than 3.6 million copies in this country alone. - ALBUM DETAILS: - See fact attack above. Album picture on left obviously.

- SEAMLESS?: - Nowhere near: *Kate Moss is still going out with Pete Doherty. *Brad Pitt is divorced from Jennifer Aniston, not going through divorce. *Tomb Raider is not set in the future apparently, but yes Dave it does come under the “fantasy” bracket. Nice. |

- SEAMLESS?: - Yes, apparently so anyway. What a top guest Ozzy was by the way. Much better than I’d have predicted. |

- SEAMLESS?: - Almost, one minor major flaw this morning: *Cassius Clay actually changed his name to “Muhammad Ali” when he discovered Islam and became a Muslim - it wasn’t his stage name, but actually a name he acquired because of his deep religious beliefs. Hmm, well done Dave. |
TRACK INFO: - Released January 1993 - B-Side with “Revolution”, this track reached no. 4 in the UK, spending 9 weeks on the chart. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Mr Wendal is a track all about homelessness and recognising the dignity in others. | All Saints Pure Shores - All Saints’ Melanie Blatt’s former other half used to be in Jamiroquai - “Jamiroquai” is a native American Indian word, a bit like “tomahawk” and “apache” - “Apache” was the title of a number one hit single years ago for The Shadows - The Shadows were the backing band for Cliff Richard - Cliff Richard is a big fan of tennis, and a big mate of Sue Barker - Sue Barker is the host of “A Question Of Sport”, with team captains Matt Dawson and Ally McCoist - Ally McCoist used to play for Rangers, who along with Celtic, make up the Old Firm - “Firm” is the opposite of “soft”, which is how you might describe the fur upon a rabbit - One of the most popular colours for pet rabbits is white, which interestingly is also the same colour as the inside of a coconut - Coconut is what you’d find inside a Bounty bar, which is apparently “the taste of paradise” - and when you think of the word “paradise” in the context of great records of all time, you think of course of Paradise City by Guns 'N' Roses - Which links us rather self indulgently to Guns 'N' Roses and Paradise City
- SEAMLESS?: - Close enough: *There was some dispute about word origin - apparently “Iriquai” not “Jamiroquai” is native American Indian, and Jay Kay just added the “Jam”. *Also, the Bounty strapline now is “taste of the exotic” or something similar, not “taste of paradise”.. which of course was the crucial part of the link, getting us to Paradise City. Nevermind eh Dave. |
TRACK INFO: - Released March 1989 - Reached number six in the UK chart, with a 9 week run prior to disappearing. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Did you know (hmm..) that Guns 'N' Roses are the only act EVER to hold the top two album spots in both the UK and the US on the week of releasing both records: Use Your Illusion I and II in 1991. - SEAMLESS?: - A few people on the text were being pernickity about Crewe Alexandra and Hong Kong, but:- *The main flaw today was the fact you (apparently) don’t get a telegram from the Queen when you turn 100 anymore. Must be a picture message now or something. |
TRACK INFO: - Released February 2000 - The bands’ fourth UK number one single, which spent a total of 16 weeks on the chart. - MC FACT ATTACK: - The second biggest single of the year 2000 in this country. | Third Eye Blind Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind are from America, as is Chevy Chase, who starred in the movie “National Lampoon's Vacation” alongside former model Christie Brinkley - Christie Brinkley is, or certainly used to be, married to Billy Joel - Billy Joel shares one name in common with Joel, off of JK and Joel, whose surname is “Hogg”, a bit like Boss Hogg off of Dukes Of Hazzard (MC edit - I always thought he was Joel Ross?) - The Dukes Of Hazzard is a timeless classic which looks as good today as it did when it was first aired, and was recently remade into a movie starring Jessica Simpson - Jessica Simpson shares the same initials as Jack Straw, who is the foreign secretary - The post of foreign secretary, as the name suggests, involves dealing with foreign stuff, in other countries like France, Iraq and Cuba to name but three - 3 is the square route of 9, which is the total points acheivable (without going into extra points as a result of a really tight match), in the game of squash - Squash is played on a court - Caught of a different type is what happens to fish - Fish live in the sea, along with lobsters and crustaceans and dolphins - and dolphins are a good example of a creature that is “born slippy”, as a result of its smooth and aerodynamic shape - Which links us predictably to this mornings Friday classic dance tune, Underworld and Born Slippy
- SEAMLESS?: - Well, kind of: *Dolphins are not “aerodynamic” in shape of course, as that refers to something that travels through the air. Dolphins of course travel through the water, making them “hydrodynamic”.. a new word to us all I think. |
TRACK INFO: - Released May 1995/July 1996/November 2003 - In its three separate releases, has spent a collective total of 26 weeks on the UK Singles Chart. Highest position was number 2 in 1996. - MC FACT ATTACK: - No facts needed about this tune. Just listen to it. - ALBUM DETAILS: - Let’s face it, you could get this song on an Underworld album - but frankly, you’d be much better off getting it on the Trainspotting soundtrack.. with Blur, Elastica, New Order, Pulp, Sleeper, Iggy Pop etc.

 | C & C Music Factory Gonna Make You Sweat - One half of C & C Music Factory is now sadly no longer with us, and in that respect shares something in common with former double act Charles & Eddie - Charles & Eddie had a 1992 hit with “Would I Lie To You” - “Would I Lie To You” was also a song title used by both the Eurythmics and White Snake - Snakes of different sizes and colours were being wrapped around the head of Justin Timberlake yesterday with Colin and Edith, live from Belfast Zoo - A zoo is where you’d expect to see lots of animals that would normally live in Africa - “Africa” was a 1983 hit for Toto - Toto was a character in “The Wizard Of Oz”, and was the dog of Dorothy - Dorothy Perkins shares the same surname as Sue Perkins, who in turn shares the same first name as Sue Townsend, who wrote the Adrian Mole books - A mole has two eyes, but bad eyesight because it lives underground - and if you had a mole that had an extra eye, it would be a tricloptic mole - and if the third eye on this particular mole didn’t work, right, and wasn’t any good, you might describe it as being a “blind third eye”, or if you prefer to put those words the other way round, a “third eye blind” - Which links us to Third Eye Blind and of course Semi-Charmed Life
- SEAMLESS?: - Oh no no no no: *Huge error by Dave today - spotted immediately by everyone (me included, for once). Justin Hawkins was in Belfast with Colin and Edith yesterday, not Justin Timberlake.. as incorrectly stated by Mr Vitty. |
TRACK INFO: - Released September 1997 - Reached number 33 and spent five weeks on the UK Singles Chart. - MC FACT ATTACK: - Third Eye Blind are one of Tiger Woods’ favourite bands... incidently also the same fact I used last time Dave played this on Tedious. It’s all I have on them I’m afraid. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From their non charting self entitled album “Third Eye Blind” - complete with a nice, charming album cover for the kids too. Hmm.

 | Kula Shaker Hey Dude - Kula Shaker supported Oasis on the bill for their legendary 1996 shows at Knebworth, along with the Charlatans, the Manics and Dreadzone - Dreadzone’s biggest hit was entitled “Little Britain” - “Little Britain” is the name of the comedy series that stars David Walliams and Matt Lucas - Matt Lucas shares the same surname as George Lucas, who directed Star Wars - Star Wars starred Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia - Carrie Fisher shares the same first name as Carrie Davis, who reads our sport and is a big fan of Chelsea - Chelsea disappointingly lost last night in their Champions League match against Real Betis, and boss Jose Mourinho is not happy - “Happy Days” was the telly show set in 50’s Milwaukee, which is also the American city where singer Alice Cooper is from - Alice Cooper shares the same surname as Colin Cooper, whose initials are C & C, a bit like Chris Coleman, whose initials are also C & C - and when you think of the initials C & C in the context of early 90’s dance hits by two producers who ran their own music factory, you think of C & C Music Factory - Which links us predictably to C & C Music Factory and Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
- SEAMLESS?: - Yet again, surprisingly yes. Followed by a nice little rap-off between Dominic and Aled. |
TRACK INFO: - Released December 1990 - Top tune that reached number 3 in the charts, spending 12 weeks on there in total. - MC FACT ATTACK: - C & C Music Factory wasn't really a group - it was the product of Robert Clivilles and the late David Cole, two pop-savvy dance producers who hired all the singers and created all the tracks for Gonna Make You Sweat, also their first album as well as single. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From the aforementioned “Gonna Make You Sweat” album, a top 8 hit back in February 1991.

 | Primal Scream Rocks - Rocks are what you might find at the beach, along with lots of sand, pebbles and shells - Shells are like a mobile home for snails - Snails are a national delicacy in France - France shares a border with Spain, which is the home of Antonio Banderas - Banderas were a short lived early 90’s slaphead girl combo, who scored a top 16 hit in 1991 with “This Is Your Life” - “This Is Your Life” was a long running celebrity based programme, which we were once on, to celebrate the life and works of David Dickinson - David Dickinson is from Stockport, the same part of the world that Will Mellor is from - Will Mellor shares the same first name as Prince William, who was training with Alan Curbishley and the lads the other day at Charlton Athletic - Charlton Athletic is one of Man City defender Danny Mills’s former clubs - Danny Mills shares the same surname as actress Hayley Mills, obviously the daughter of the great Sir John Mills - and Hayley Mills is the mother of Crispian Mills, who’s from Kula Shaker - Which links us confusingly to Kula Shaker and the classic Hey Dude
- SEAMLESS?: - Seamless link yes, despite a barrage of texts saying Danny Mills never played for Charlton. He did. Dave wins. |
TRACK INFO: - Released September 1996 - Spent seven weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking inside the top 2 at number 2. - MC FACT ATTACK: - According to my archives, this track hasn’t been used on Tedious Link since Thursday 28th November 2002, although I’m sure that must be wrong. Er.. fact. I win. - ALBUM DETAILS: - From Kula Shaker’s debut album “K” (also released in September 96) - which spent 44 weeks on the UK Album Chart in total, and was their only UK number one album.

 | Chocolate Puma I Wanna Be U - The Chocolate Puma track has been used recently to advertise a well known store that sells furniture - Furniture is a pain to shift around when you move house - House music was invented by Frankie Knuckles - Frankie Knuckles shares the same christian name as Frankie Dettori, who rides horses - Horses were traditionally used to pull carts and stuff, before the invention of cars - Cars are a major source of traffic congestion in the UK, which is why it’s sometimes better to travel by bus - A bus is what we’re on at the moment, in the centre of Leeds, as part of the Radio 1 “DJ’s Go Home” thing, and later we’ll be taking our bus on a journey around Leeds - Leeds is in the county of West Yorkshire, which has produced many great bands over the years, including Sisters Of Mercy, The Mission, Utah Saints, Terrovision and Embrace, who will be performing live on stage right here in the city centre in about quarter of an hour or so, infront of all of you - and an embrace is a bit like a hug, which is what you’d give to a friend or loved one if they’d just crawled to safety, having been caught up in an avalanche and buried deep beneath lots of snow, ice and “rocks” - Which links us to Primal Scream and Rocks
- SEAMLESS?: - Yes. No text messages to check with it being an OB, but seamless nonetheless. |
TRACK INFO: - Released March 1994 - Reached number seven on the chart, spending five weeks on it in total. - MC FACT ATTACK: - I honestly can’t think of a single fact about this track. It’s late as I’m writing this and I can’t be arsed thinking of one - sorry. - ALBUM DETAILS: - First single taken from Primal Scream’s 1994 comeback album “Give Out But Don’t Give Up” - released a month after the single in April 1994.
